Memorial Service
For Eleanor M. Weiss

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville for Eleanor "Ebbie" M. Weiss who died in Arizona as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A luncheon will follow in the church dining room.

Warren Ruppert

Word has been received of the death of Warren Ruppert, a former resident of Jeffersonville and more recently of Colorado, on Tuesday, December 30, 2003. A complete obituary is expected for the next issue of the Democrat.

Lillian Clark
Homemaker, 90

Lillian Clark of Neversink, a homemaker and a lifelong Sullivan County resident, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 90 years of age.
The daughter of the late Wilmer and Grace King, she was born May 7, 1913, in Monticello. She was the widow of Clayton Clark who died in 1996.
Mrs. Clark is survived by a devoted niece and her husband, Barbara and William Yager of Neversink; a grand-nephew, Robert Yager and his wife, Karen, of Centereach; and a grand-niece, Lisa Yager of Boston, Mass.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Glen T. Healy, 45
Industrial Plumber

Glen Thomas Healy of Cochecton and an industrial plumber in Maryland, died at the Grover M. Hermann Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon on Monday, December 29, 2003, after a year-long courageous battle against small cell cancer. He was 45 years of age.
He was born January 30, 1958. After traveling and living for a time in other places, he came to live in Kenoza Lake in 1972. He always said Sullivan County was "home." He was a 1976 graduate of the Jeffersonville High School.
In a family statement, it was said, "We are broken-hearted but ever grateful and proud to call him our son and brother. He was blessed to have lifelong friendships with Randy Hendrix, Dave Huggins, Bert Honeker, Tim McCoach and Carol Kaufmann to name just a few. He loved you all."
Mr. Healy is survived by a nephew and niece, Pete and Margot Healy; a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Karen Healy; a brother-in-law, Bob Bivins; a nephew, Ian Detch; Lori and Marissa Piccirilli and nephews, Jonathon and Ryan Healy; two aunts, an uncle and countless cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Joseph Healy, grandparents, and aunts and uncles on both sides of his family.
Services were held Saturday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Robert F. Curtis
Ret. Transfer Oper., 78

Robert F. Curtis of Claryville, a lifelong area resident and the retired Town of Denning Transfer Station operator, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at his home. He was 78 years of age.
Mr. Curtis was also a former member of the Claryville Fire Department and was retired from the Ulster County Highway Department.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Grace Davis Curtis, at home; a brother, Virgil Curtis of Phoenicia; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday evening at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Arthur Nesbitt, 86
Ret. Pathologist Asst.

Arthur Nesbitt of Hurleyville, a 14-year area resident and a retired assistant to the pathologist at Letchworth Village in Thiells, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 86 years of age.
He is survived by his caregivers, Joan Bennett and Russell Bloom and his many friends at the Sullivan County Adult Day Care Center and Sullivan County ARC.
Services were held Saturday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.
Burial was made in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Frank Rivera
Artist/Painter, 48

Frank Rivera of Ellenville, a 10-year area resident and a self- employed artist and painter, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the Orange County Residential Facility in Goshen. He was 48 years of age.
The son of Efrain and Porfiria Negron Rivera, he was born June 1, 1955, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Rivera attended the Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew in Ellenville.
He is survived by his parents of Ellenville; a brother, Ivan Rivera of Ellenville; a sister and brother-in-law, Mitzi and Adalberto Santiago of Grahamsville; five nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by a brother, William A. Rivera.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty St., Monticello, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Ginel officiating.
Burial will be made in the family plot at Rosedale and Linden Park Cemetery in Linden, N.J.

Sonya Weiss
Ret. Office Clerk, 93

Sonya Weiss of Boca Raton, Fla., a retired office clerk, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at White Hall Boca. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Morris and Anna Rosmosky Scheinman, she was born August 20, 1910, in the village of Mazyr Dyello, Russia. She was the widow of Irving Weiss.
Mrs. Weiss grew up in Greenfield Park and spent most of her adult life in Queens. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel of Woodbourne.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lorie and Frank Ford of Otisville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Melady and Carrie Ford; two grandsons, Frank Jr. and Derrick Ford; a great-grandson, Zachary Melady; two nephews, Robert Scheinman and his wife, Karla, of Woodbourne, and Dr. Steven
Scheinman of Hamilton; a niece, Ava Kleinman and her husband, Bruce, of Morristown, N.J; a grand-nephew, Edward Scheinman; and three grand-nieces, Sara, Lisa and Jane Scheinman; and numerous extended family members in whom she maintained a close and loving relationship. She was predeceased by a brother, the Honorable Louis B. Scheinman, and a sister, Gertrude Kogon.
Services were held Monday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Interment was made in Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Martha Z. Dropp
Ret. School Nurse, 82

Martha Z. Dropp of Roscoe, a retired school nurse/teacher for Delaware Academy in Delhi and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 82 years of age
The daughter of the late Karl and Pauline Kolher Zimmerman, she was born August 6, 1921, in Delancey.
Mrs. Dropp was a member of the Roscoe Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Meola of Roscoe; a son, Thomas W. Dropp of Roscoe; a brother, Fred Zimmerman of Delhi; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Wondra officiating.
Burial will be made in the Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.

Anita G. Paessler
Homemaker, 61

Anita G. Paessler of Harris, a homemaker and a 20-year area resident, died Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 61 years of age.
The daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Cross Bridge, she was born September 11, 1942, in Greenwich, Conn.
Mrs. Paessler is survived by two sons, Rudi Paessler and his companion, Kim Singleton, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Wayne Paessler and his wife, Cyndy, of Greenwich, Conn.; a daughter, Cindy Paessler and her companion, Kevin Schmitz, of Harris; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew G. and Linda Bridge of White Sulphur Springs, and Alan and Phyllis Bridge of Columbus, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Steven, Shelby and Sheldon Schmitz, Eric, Alyssa, Jake and Ethan Paessler; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Neilson.
Services were private.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Bruna H. Rosengard
Ret. Library Wkr., 94

Bruna Hazan Rosengard of Providence, R.I., a former resident of Brookline, Mass., and a 10-year worker at the Mugar Library at Boston University, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at the Steere House Nursing Facility in Providence, R.I. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Rayna and Samuel Hazan and step-daughter of the late Rose Hazan, she was born in New York City. She was the widow of David Eli Rosengard.
Mrs. Rosengard is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Daniel Subotnik of Providence, R.I.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Gandalf Rosengard of Smallwood; two grandchildren, Eva Subotnik and Joseph Subotnik; two brothers, Louis Hazan and Earl Hazan; and two sisters, Ruth Pearson Long and Leonore Levy. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sondra Hazan and Sarah Goldberger, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Rosengard.
Services were held at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline, Mass., on Sunday.
Interment was made at the Atereth Israel Cemetery in West Roxbury, Mass.

Robert Flaherty, 87

Robert Flaherty of Loch Sheldrake died Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late William and Mary Welsh Flaherty, he was born February 25, 1916, in Brooklyn, one of eight children.
He is survived by his friends at New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake where he resided for over 27 years; and his longtime friend, Maria Dallin of Wurtsboro.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne.
Interment was made in the Woodbourne Reform Church Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Elaine M. Cron
Ret. Grocer, 65

Elaine Mae Cron, a 22-year resident of Freeport, Fla., died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at her home. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harold and Inez Miller Depuy, she was born October 23, 1938, in Willowemoc. She was the widow of Lester Fredenburg.
She owned and operated the One Stop Grocery Store in Freeport, Fla., with her husband for nine years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, August W. Cron of Freeport, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian L. and Carla Fredenburg of Cooperstown; a step-son, Robert Cron of Tannersville; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla E. and James Griffith of Freeport, Fla.; a step-daughter, Sharon Cron of Ferndale; and two grandchildren, James and Kati Griffith.
Memorial services were held Friday at the Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Taunton officiating.

Patricia Robbins
Ret. Med. Asst., 65

Patricia D. Durland Robbins of Monticello, a longtime medical assistant at the former Hamilton Hospital in Monticello, died Thursday, January 1, 2003, after a battle with cancer. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Doris Decker Durland, she was born June 19, 1938.
She grew up in Hurleyville, moving to Monticello shortly after graduating and raised her sons there.
In a family statement, it was said, "Patricia's smiling face and generous heart will be remembered by her family, her many friends and the patrons of Gusar's Pharmacy where she worked for the last several years as an administrative assistant."
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Robbins; two sons, Jeffrey W. Cook and John W. Robbins; a daughter-in-law, Irene Cook; and three grandchildren, Laura, Ashleigh and Alex.
A celebration of her life was held on Monday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Rose M. Willcox
Homemaker, 64

Rose Mary Willcox of Middletown, a homemaker, died Friday, January 2, 2004, at her home. She was 64 years of age.
The daughter of the late John F. and Ruth Marquette Weigel, she was born February 22, 1939, in Callicoon.
Mrs. Willcox was a volunteer reader for the blind at the Ramapo Catskill Library System in Middletown and had also worked for the Board of Elections in the Town of Wawayanda.
She is survived by her husband, H. Keith Willcox, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Elise Kim and James Durma of Mt. Hope; two sons, H. Keith Willcox II and his wife, Brenda, of Wurtsboro, and Timothy Kevin Willcox, at home; seven grandchildren, Krista and Alicia DeLeeuw, Jessica and Deanna Willcox, Triston Killian Willcox and Kathleen and Ashley Durma; a sister, Marty Lou Gorenflo of Fishkill; two brothers, A.J. Weigel of Texas and Bob Weigel of Colorado; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Weigel.
A Funeral Mass was offered Monday at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Goshen.
Burial was private.

Muriel Garfinkel
Ret. Businesswoman, 77

Muriel Garfinkel of Monticello, the former owner and operator of Resort Furniture Store in Monticello with her late husband, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late Jacob and Josephine Fierstein Coopersmith, she was born March 13, 1926, in the Bronx. She was the widow of Murray Garfinkel.
Mrs. Garfinkel was a longtime member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue and the Sisterhood in Monticello.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Renee Garfinkel of Washington, D.C., Dr. Abraham and Mercy Garfinkel of Monticello and Chaim and Laurie Garfinkel of Kansas City, Kans.; three daughters, and two sons-in-law, Debby and Alex Stroli of Passaic, N.J., Ester Vegh of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sari and Yossi Rosenberg of Spring Valley; a sister, Sylvia Mishkin of Whitestone; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.

Roger ‘Jimmy’ Green
Ret. Dental Hygienist, 63

Roger "Jimmy" Green of Hankins, a retired dental hygienist and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 63 years of age.
The son of Helen L. Goodrich Green Hubert and the late Lyle A. Green, he was born January 2, 1941, in Roscoe.
A 27-year veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Allan Milk Memorial Post No. 7276, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Long Eddy, and the Hankins Fire Company.
He is survived by his wife, Yoshie "Nancy" Fukuda Green, at home; his mother of Hankins; a sister, Susan Shafarzek of Charlottesville, Va.; a nephew; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his step-father, Floyd E. "Bob" Hubert.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Wednesday from 2-3 p.m.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ignatius Smith officiating.
