Maybelle M. Dirie
Homemaker, 87

Maybelle Marie Dirie of Jeffersonville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Maude May Turner Boettger, she was born May 20, 1917 in the Town of Delaware.
Mrs. Dirie was a member of the Sullivan County Home Extension Service. She was a quilter with the Youngsville Ladies Aide Society of the Youngsville Reformed Church.
She is survived by her husband, Louis E. Dirie, at home; two sons, Clyde Dirie and his wife, Linda, of Youngsville, and Alan Dirie of Jeffersonville; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Andrea Dirie. Mrs. Dirie was predeceased by three sisters, Adele Knack, Elsie Pagano and Evelyn Boettger, and a brother, Frank Boettger.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Youngs-ville Reformed Church with Pastor Lee Andrews officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott with burial of the cremains at the Hortonville Cemetery.

Charles Yaun
Ret. Businessman, 89

Charles "Hiram" Yaun of Liberty, a lifetime area resident and the founder of C. Yaun Sr. and Jr. Plumbing & Heating in Liberty, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at his home, after a long illness. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late John and Lindie Walker Yaun, he was born February 3, 1915, in Liberty.
Mr. Yaun was a member of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, a lifelong member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department and a member of the Liberty Red Men.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Kirchner Yaun, at home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Thomas C. and Barbara Yaun of Standwood, Wash., Charles H. Jr. and Joann Yaun of Liberty, Deming and Virginia Yaun of Beacon and Stacey Yaun and his companion, Rose Sprague, of Liberty; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy L. and Ronald Menges of Liberty, Linda M. Roidl and Wilbur Webb of Syracuse and Christine H. Yaun and George Crary of Sprarrowbush; 15 grandchildren, Keith Menges, Kathy DeNaro, Taunya Clarke, Kristopher Yaun, Jeffrey Yaun, Jennifer Yaun, Jessie Yaun, Thomas L. Crary, George Crary III, Kami Crary, Adam Yaun, Andrew Yaun, Carl Yaun, Justin Yaun and Cody Yaun; and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda DeNaro, Tiffany DeNaro, Kendall Menges, RuthAnne Clarke, Stuart Clarke, Charley Marie Yaun and Mark Bertram. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Funeral home with Pastor Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Laurel Hill Cemetery on White Sulphur Springs.

Thomas J. Burns
Contractor, 50

Thomas J. Burns of Rock Hill, a self-employed contractor and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at his home. He was 50 years of age.
The son of Bette Ryerson Burns and the late Roland Burns, he was born July 25, 1954, in Monticello.
He is survived by his mother of Fremont Center; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Frankie Burns of Shelton, Wash., Ronald and Cindy Burns of Fallsburg and Richard Burns of Munci, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Roy Millspaugh of Wurtsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Private cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Julia Henle
Homemaker, 91

Julia Henle of Rock Hill, a homemaker and a former resident of North Bergen and Secaucus, N.J., died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at her home. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Antonio and Guiseppa Gerbino, she was born October 4, 1913, in West New York, N.J. She was the widow of Joseph Henle.
Mrs. Henle is survived by two children, Frances DeCaro and her husband, Fred, of New Fairfield, Conn., and Joseph Henle of Rock Hill; a grandson, Fred DeCaro III of Cos Cob, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Joseph, John, Anthony, Salvatore, Louis and Vincent Gerbino.

Rev. Mark Gluckin
Minister, 54

Rev. Mark Alan Gluckin of Summerfield, N.C., a former resident of Woodridge and a minister of the Christian Faith and a Biblical Archivist, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at the Moses Cone Hospital. He was 54 years of age.
The son of Sylvia Klein Gluckin and the late Jerry Gluckin, he was born June 10, 1950.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Barbara Gluckin, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Elizabeth and Alexander Waters of London, England; two sons, Victor Paul Gluckin of Atlanta, Ga., and Daniel Kalk Gluckin of Summerfield, N.C.; his mother of Randolph Township, N.J.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joan Gluckin of Randolph Township, N.J., and Barry and Kathy Gluckin of Island Park.

Edythe L. Hyatt
Ret. RN, 82

Edythe Louise Hyatt of Jeffersonville, a registered nurse and a longtime dental assistant for Dr. Jules Flax, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Freida Wahl Beiling, she was born May 11, 1922, in Callicoon.
During World War II, she served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps, serving in Europe with the Fifth Army Division. Mrs. Hyatt was a charter member of the Jeffersonville Ambulance Corps; a member of the Happy Footers Square Dance Club and the Jeffersonville Snowmobile Club. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jeffersonville.
She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Hyatt, at home; three children and their spouses, Peter and Peg Hyatt of Marietta, Ga., James and Jane Hyatt of Lompock, Calif., and Susan and Dan Clark of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Charlotte Steenrod and Wanda Cunningham.
Friends may call on Friday at the Stewart-Murphy Funral Home in Jeffersonville from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lee Andrews officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.

Robert Klugman
Fmr. Liberty Mayor, 89

Robert Klugman of Plantsville, Conn., a former longtime resident and former mayor of Liberty who, with his late brother, Aaron, co-owned the Liberty Pharmacy for over 40 years, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, in Connecticut. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late Nathan and Mary Zack Klugman, he was born October 3, 1915, in New York City.
Mr. Klugman moved to Liberty in his youth. He was a graduate of Columbia University School of Pharmacy in NYC.
A devoted public servant, he served for many years as a member of the Liberty Village Board of Trustees and as Mayor. He was a member of Ahavath Israel Synagogue in Liberty and a past president of Liberty Elks Lodge No. 1545.
He is survived by two children and their spouses, Marilyn K. and Gerald Fishbone of New Haven, Conn., and Mike K. and Suzanne Klugman of Agoura Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lisa Wallack, Scott Fishbone, Jeffrey Klugman and Amanda Klugman; six great-grandchildren, Harris, Perry and Sydney Wallack and Lucas, Alex and Kate Fishbone.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday at the Ahavath Israel Synagogue Cemetery in Liberty.

Sean T. Monahan
Waiter, 47

Sean T. Monahan of Ellenville, a lifelong resident and the former owner of Monahan's Reef of Greenfield Park, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the Kingston Hospital. He was 47 years of age.
The son of the late Robert and Gladys Laubner Monahan, he was born December 26, 1956, in Ellenville.
Mr. Monahan attended the Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew in Ellenville. He was a waiter at the Potpourri Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Carl Allison of Hurleyville; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Connie Monahan of Lewes, Del; three nieces and nephews, Tracey Hussey and her husband, Arthur, Kevin Leland and his wife, Margaret, and Kristopher Allison; three great-grand-nieces and nephews, Jessica Hussey, Julia Leland and Gregory Leland; and many special friends, including Debi Lambert and her family.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, at the Loucks Funeral Home, Route 209, Ellenville.

Betty Artusa
Homemaker, 80

Betty Artusa of Rockledge, Fla., a former resident of Montgomery, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, in Rockledge. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frederick Charles and Gladys Maude Foster Artusa, she was born July 10, 1924 in Norwich, England. She was the widow of Eugene Artusa.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Michael and Loretta Artusa of Liberty, Eugene and Kathy Artusa of Rockledge, Fla., and Peter and Tammy Artusa of Warwick; eight grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly, Jean Marie, Anthony, Lori, Daniela, Nicholas and Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Edward's Church in Florida, N.Y.
Burial will be made in the family plot in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Mt. Kisco.

Christopher M. Singer, 23

Christopher M. Singer of Riverdale, N.J. died Monday, November 29, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was 23 years of age.
The son of Martin and Donna Osinga Singer, he was born in Pompton Plains, and lived in Riverdale most of his life.
A 1999 graduate of Pompton Lakes High School, he was an active participant in sports including football, track and wrestling. He enjoyed weight lifting and would often be found working out at Gold's Gym in Riverdale. Christopher also enjoyed music and spent many hours listening to his favorite songs.
In a family statement, it was said, "He stood tall despite his adversity and got his final wish to die at home surrounded by his family and many true friends. He died very peacefully . . . His family and friends will always remember his wonderful sense of humor, his gift of personality and how he related to others in a very compassionate and loving way. His short time on earth was a true blessing for many."
He is survived by his parents, at home; his maternal grandparents, Donald and Beatrice Osinga of Glen Spey; and his paternal grandfather, Martin Singer of Little Falls.
Services will be held at 10 a.m on Friday at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Rd., Wayne, N.J.
Interment will be made in Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.

Michael Acker
Owned Guys & Dolls

Michael Acker of Monticello, the former owner/operator of Michael's Guys and Dolls at the former Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, died Monday, November 29, 2004 at his home.
The son of the late Chaim Yisrioel and Elkie Weicenfeld Acerstein, he was born December 15 (no year given) in Poland.
Mr. Acker was a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello; an associate member of Hadassah; and a member of the Habonim Cultural Club of Holocaust Survivors.
He is survived by his wife, Essia Acker, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Adam Spitz of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Esther Ackerstein of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla; two grandchildren, Peri and Hayley Spitz; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
Shiva will be observed at the family home in Monticello until Friday.

James K. Freer
Ret. Well Driller, 75

James Keeton Freer of Youngsville, a retired well driller for Bill Lang Well Drilling and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 75 years of age.
The son of the late Dr. Archibald and Edith Gloslynn Freer, he was born September 21, 1929, in Ellenville.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a loving husband and a good father."
He is survived by his wife, Ryllis Plaskin Freer, at home; two daughters, Linda Baim of Youngsville and Susan Trautschold of Liberty; three sons, James Freer of Highland, Daniel Freer of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Michael Freer of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Paul Freer of Raleigh, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl and Richard Freer.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Alan Wachter officiating.

Gustav Erlemann
Ret. Civil Engineer, 85

Gustav George Erlemann of Jeffersonvile, a retired civil engineer, died at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady on Wednesday, December 1, 2004, after a long illness. He was 85 years of age.
Born in New York City on May 12, 1919, he was raised in Belmore, L.I.
During World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps as a second lieutenant and was a weather officer in Panama. After the war he returned to New York and completed his civil engineering degree from Cooper Union in 1949.
Mr. Erlemann formed "Rebar Estimating Bureau" in 1954 and was a partner in the company until 1989 when he was named director of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Industry (CRSI) where he served until 1995. He was a consultant to CRSI until 2004 where he was known as "Mr. Rebar" due to his experience in rebar. He is best noted for his production of interactive training video "Placing and Tying Rebar" for the CRSI.
His colleagues said "He was a tough act to follow."
Mr. Erlemann is survived by two sons Douglas Erlemann of Lucas, Tex., and Gregory Erlemann of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Gail Manganaro of Rotterdam, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Casey, Melissa, Lukas, Zachary, Tanner, Heather, Andy, Gary and Hildi; two sisters, Anna Platz of Richmond, Va., and Eva Frendzel of Jericho, L.I.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Monday from noon to 1 p.m.
Services will be held Monday at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kristen Anderson officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
