LIVINGSTON MANOR February 20, 2004 In Wednesday nights OCIAA Division VI girls basketball game, the Lady Wildcats of Livingston Manor defeated the visiting Eldred Lady Yellowjackets, 56-27.
Manor (9-7, 4-4 OCIAA) jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first period, but the Lady Yellowjackets swarmed back to outscore the resident hoopsters by three (8-5) in the second quarter.
In the third period, the Lady Wildcats iced the game by outrunning Eldred (8-8, 3-4 OCIAA), 22-6. Manor outscored the Lady Yellowjackets by an 11-7 margin in the final quarter.
Manor had a trio of players reach double figures. Senior Mary Mills scored a team-high 17 points, while Charlene Vail and Heather Sherwood netted 15 and 10 points, respectively.
For Eldred, senior Lauren Timan was the only player to score in double figures. She finished the contest with 13 points.
Eldred shot slightly better at the free-throw line. The Lady Yellowjackets made 9-of-17 foul shots (53 percent), while the Lady Wildcats were 9-of-21 (43 percent).
The games outcome was extra special for Manor, as the win qualified the team for the upcoming Section IX Class D tournament.
