Rod and Gun Club Holds
Children's Fishing Day

TUSTEN — June 11, 2004 – The Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club sponsored a Kids Day of Fishing this past Sunday at Lake Labarr in the Town of Tusten.
The event was open to kids from ages 5 to 15 years of age and each young angler had to be accompanied by a adult.
“We started this event four years ago in a way to get kids away from the video and computer games and back out to the outdoors,” said Jim Hanson, who served as co-chairman of the day of fishing. “A event like this shows kids how much fun it can be being outside on the lake and catching a fish.
“If one kid catches one fish today, then the day was well worth it and we have had a lot of kids catching fish, so it is a good day” Hanson added.
Co-Chairman J.P. Lang agreed that the event was very successful.
“We have had over ??? kids participate in the event and we provided hot dogs and hamburgers as well as soda for all the participants,” he said. “Today is a little rainy so not that many kids probably came out to fish, but we are happy with those that have.”
The Yulan Bait Shop provided all the bait used by the children in the all-day event.
The Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club is planning to hold two other youth outdoor events in the near future. The club will host a Day at the Range on Saturday, July 24 for children between the ages of 10 and 15. Hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon. Then on Saturday, August 28, the club will sponsor a Kids Casting Contest and Fishing Day for children between the ages of 5 and 15. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. that day.
