MONTICELLO — July 20, 2004 – The “Italy” team defeated “England” 3-0 on Friday in the older group of the Town of Thompson Park Soccer Championship.
“Italy” was led by Darren Fraser, who scored two goals, and Jesse Levine, who added the other goal. Goalie Jessica Barbone also played very well, as she did not allow a goal in the title match.
The game was the finale in the week-long camp that was attended by about 85 youngsters, according to camp director Betsy Conaty. The camp was run by Conaty and the Village of Monticello Parks and Recreation Department.
Four coaches with a great deal of soccer experience taught the kids. The children learned soccer skills such as ball handling and conducted several other drills.
“We want it to be a learning environment…how hard they work is up to them,” Conaty said.
