TUSTEN August 31, 2004 The Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club held its fourth annual youth fishing day on Saturday, August 28 at Lake Labarr in the Town of Tusten.
We wish we had more kids out here today, but still the ones that came out today really had a great time, said Kids Day of Fishing Chairman Jim Hanson. The kids were catching fish left and right and just thrilled to be out here. They were catching sunnies, perch and even a few bass here and there.
Hanson added that the event was started in 2001 to help kids enjoy outside activities such as fishing, instead of sitting home and watching TV or playing video games.
The event also included a kids casting contest in which children competed to see who could cast the closet to the target. In the 7 to 10 age group, John Palles won first place and in the 11 to 14 age group, Sarah Lander placed first. Palles and Lander each received a fishing pole and everyone who participated in the contest also received a prize.
The event was held at no charge to the children. The prizes were donated by the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club, which also prepared the lunch that was served to all of the participants.
