JEFFERSONVILLE September 17, 2004 Fresh off two sterling performances against Delhi and Spackenkill, the Sullivan West Bulldogs will play their first home game of the season this Saturday.
Originally planned for tonight under the lights at the new sports complex at the high school in Lake Huntington, the game has been moved to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Jeffersonville.
Head coach Ron Bauer was cautiously optimistic about the undefeated Bulldogs upcoming clash with unbeaten Red Hook.
We have to keep playing good football, he said. Right now we are playing well but we have to stay focused and keep executing.
Red Hook is also a Class B team, like Sullivan West, but in another division.
The Bulldogs have only allowed one touchdown in two games and rely heavily on hard hitting and a swarming defense.
We play either a five-man front or a four-man front, Bauer said.
Powered by a full compliment of talented running backs, the Bulldogs offense uses an I formation or Wing T.
Right now we are fortunate to have enough running backs so that we can give them a breather when they need it, Bauer said. The key is staying healthy. I think rain will be a big factor on Saturday
we have to keep executing.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs will be at Ellenville on Thursday, September 23 at 4 p.m. and then have an open date in the schedule on October 1 because of Libertys cancellation of varsity football.
We are trying to fill that date but so far havent had any luck, he said.
On Saturday, October 9 the Bulldogs travel to Goshen to take on John S. Burke at 2:30 p.m.
And on Friday, October 15, Sullivan West will try and host its first home game under the lights when the Tri-Valley Bears visit Lake Huntington.
The following Friday, October 22, the Bulldogs will be home again to take on Highland at 7 p.m. and on Friday, October 29, Sullivan West will travel to New Paltz for a 7 p.m. game.
