Alexander La Hanko, 81

Alexander La Hanko of Napanoch died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at the Andover Nursing Home in Andover, N.J. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Max and Ludwiga La Hanko, he was born April 26, 1923, in Kearny, N.J.
Mr. La Hanko is survived by his wife, Kaythrine La Hahko, at home; a daughter, Melodie Lee Emsley and her friend, Mike Boseley of Jane Lew, W. Va.; three sons, Monty La Hanko and Keith La Hanko and his wife, Melodie, all of Woodbourne, and Craig La Hanko of Madiera Beach, Fla.; several close friends, including Herb and Pat Mullinex of Meherrin, Va.; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Katie La Hanko and Shawn and Nathan Mullinex.
Cremation was arranged by the Smith-McCracken Funral Home in Newton, N.J.

Robert I. Bacco
Ret. Sign Painter, 81

Robert I. Bacco of Parksville, a retired sign painter and a former employee of Grossman's Tire Service in Liberty, died suddenly on Thursday, December 30, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Harry and Minnie Illing Bacco, he was born November 1, 1923, in the Bronx.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debra Bacco of Liberty; a daughter and son-in-law, Verna and Mark Spina of Liberty; his companion, Anita Schultis of Swan Lake; and a grandson, Julian Spina.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Burial will be made in the Liberty Cemetery.

Jessica Lynn Kelly
4th Grade Student, 10

Jessica Lynn Kelly of Monticello, a fourth grade student at Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School in Monticello, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 10 years of age.
The daughter of Mark John and Lynn Hughes Kelly, she was born May 10, 1994, in Harris.
In a family statement, it was said, "Jessica was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. The world will not be the same without her loving smile and friendship."
She is survived by her father and step-mother Christine Powell, of Monticello; her mother of Vernon, N.J.; two brothers, Mark Kelly Jr. of Vernon, N.J., and Coltin King Kelly of Monticello; and a sister, Athena Reign Kelly of Monticello.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral with the Rev. Jerry Hillard officiaitng.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Marion E. Mills
J-Y ‘Grandma,’ 88

Marion E. Mills of Fayetteville, N.C., a longtime resident of Buck Brook and affectionately known as "Grandma" at the Jeffersonville-Youngsville school by many of the students and teachers, died Monday, December 27, 2004, at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was 88 years of age.
Mrs. Mills was the widow of John Mills. She held various jobs in the area while a resident of Buck Brook and was a former member of the Delaware Valley Parent-Teacher Association.
She is survived by two sons, John and William Mills; four daughters, Patricia Olsen, Barbara Ackerley, Dolores Mosher and Lucille Kelly; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
No further information was received.

Ralph Dennison, 65

Ralph Lewis Dennison of Ringwood, N.J., died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J., after a long illness. He was 65 years of age.
The son of the late Albert and Evelyn Dennison, he was born October 13, 1939, in Hillburn.
Mr. Dennison is survived by three daughters, Bonita McCarthy of Ramsey, N.J., Christine Dennison of Liberty and Denise Tiger of Middletown; two sisters, Emma Dennison Johnson and Milenea Dennison, both of Middletown; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert M. Dennison and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Suares.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Rte. 59, Suffern.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Aileen McTighe-Tulp
Med. Secretary, 65

Aileen R. McTighe-Tulp of Ferndale, a medical secretary and a longtime area resident, died Friday, December 31, 2004, in Ferndale. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Ann McTighe, she was born March 14, 1939, in New York City.
Mrs. McTighe-Tulp was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty. She was a secretary for Dr. Alan Greenbaum, M.D., of Liberty.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and AnnMarie Tulp of Port St. Luci, Fla., Daniel and Patti Tulp of Middletown and Robert Tulp of Lake Worth, Fla.; two daughters, Donna Smernaos of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kim Tulp of Lake Worth, Fla.; four brothers, Thomas, John, James and Joseph McTighe; three sisters, Veronica White, Virgina Kane and Muriel Giugliano; nine grandchildren, Adam Tulp, Chrstopher Tulp, Joshua Tulp, Nickolas Tulp, Danielle Tulp, Zackary Tulp, Melissa Smernaos, Stephanie Smernaos and Sophia Smernaos; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Maryann McNamara.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckey, Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Bural will be made in St. Charles Cemetery in Pinelawn.

Pauline Nearing
Ret. Teacher, 88

Pauline B. Nearing of Long Eddy, a retired elementary school teacher at the Delaware Valley Central School in Callicoon, died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of the late Andrew and Stella Bylypshyn Butremuk, she was born September 2, 1916, in New York City. She was the widow of Gerald Nearing.
A 1937 graduate of New Paltz Normal School, she took extension courses to earn her BS in education. Her first teaching position was in Thunder Hill, then in the fall of 1938, she taught in Long Eddy, followed by a position in the Delaware Valley Central School for 28 years. Mrs. Nearing was a member and Past Grand Regent of Court Raphael #1542, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, a member of AARP and the Sullivan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Mrs. Nearing was also a member of the Farm Bureau, a former Scout Den Mother and worked on the election boards.
A very active member of St. Patrick's Church in Long Eddy, she was a past president of the Parish Council. She was also secretary to the Long Eddy Fire District commissioners. Mrs. Nearing had many friends from the local area, many who attended New Paltz, and she still attended yearly meetings with these girls. They were a close group.
She is survived by a daughter, Maureen Nearing, at home; a sister, Mary Butremuk of Long Eddy; a niece, Joan O'Leary of Eastchester; a nephew, Thomas Lantry of Washington, D.C.; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two children.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Patrick's Church in Long Eddy with the Rev. Ignatius Smith, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Long Eddy.

Constance Longwell
ARC Manufacturer, 62

Constance "Connie" Longwell of Loch Sheldrake, a manufacturer at Sullivan ARC, died Thursday, December 30, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 62 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles Henry and Alice Elizabeth Muncy Longwell, she was born July 1, 1942.
In a family statement, it was said "Connie had a good sense of humor and showed compassion to others."
She is survived by a sister, Alice, and two brothers, Charles and Richard, and her extended family and friends at the New Hope Community.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Interment will be made in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale on Wednesday.

David Sussman
Ret. CPA, 91

David Sussman of New York City and Woodridge, a retired Certified Public Accountant, died on Thursday, December 30, 2004. He was 91 years of age.
At the time of his retirement he was a senior partner of the accounting firm of Baumgarten and Sussman.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a devoted husband, caring father and wonderful grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Doris Steinberg Sussman."
Mr. Sussman is survived by two children, Allan Sussman of Stamford, Conn., and Elaine Shafran of Buffalo Grove, Ill; and five grandchildren, Dana, Jeffrey, Adam, Wendi and Jordan.

Dorothy Greenwald
Ret. Spanish Teacher, 93

Dorothy Greenwald of Monticello, a longtime area resident and a retired Spanish teacher for the Monticello Central School District, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Horowitz Alpert, she was born October 4, 1911, in Centerville (now Woodridge). She was the widow of Clarence "Bud" Greenwald who died in February of 2001, He was the co-founder of Greenwald-Supon Heating and Air Conditioning in Monticello.
She attended the University of Wisconsin on a scholarship during the depression and worked as a maid to finance her living expenses. Mrs. Greenwald graduated in 1933 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was known for her love of Williamsburg, its homes and furnishings. Mrs. Greenwald started teaching English in the Woodridge School system, stopped teaching for many years, and then returned to teach Spanish in the Monticello School system.
Mrs. Greenwald was a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue and the Sisterhood.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Carol Bender; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Inge Greenwald and Paul and Michelle Greenwald; eight grandchildren, Michael, Rikke, Adam, Rachel, Rebecca, John, David and Dr. Jacqueline Brecht; and a great-grandson, Mithcell. She was predeceased by four sisters.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avneue Cemetery in Monticello.
The family will be sitting Shiva through the week.

Justin LaBarbera
Senior at MHS, 17

Justin James LaBarbera of Rock Hill, a senior at the Monticello High School, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 17 years of age.
The son of Jeffrey and Carol Bubenik LaBarbera, he was born August 17, 1987, in Goshen.
Justin played varsity baseball for the Monticello High School.
He is survived by his father of Wurtsboro; his mother and her companion, Nick Cassas, of Rock Hill; an older brother, Jeffrey LaBarbera; a younger sister, Tonya LaBarbera; his maternal grandmother, Norma Bubenik; his paternal grandparents, Jim and Helen LaBarbera; aunts and uncles, including Steven Bubenik, Beth and Martin Renner, Daniel Bubenik, Thomas Bubenik, Colleen Bubenik, Karen and Dentin Conklin, Maureen and David LaBarbera, Gary LaBarbera, Nancy and Robert Bernot and Laurie LaBarbera; several cousins; and many close friends.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Community Church of Wurtsboro with the Rev. Robert Schwander officiating.
Burial was made in the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to a memorial fund to be established at a later date. These donations can be made directly to the family.

John D. Perry
Social Worker, 40

John David Perry of Warwick, a social worker at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. He was 40 years of age.
The son of the late Clarence and Grace Stewart Perry, he was born June 13, 1964, in Goshen.
He is survived by a sister, Sandra Coleman of Irvington, N.J.; five brothers, Clarence Perry of North Carolina, Ronald Perry of Bloomingburg, Martin Perry and William Perry, both of Chester and Alexander Perry of Otisville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services were held Monday at the Lippincott Funeral Chapel in Goshen.
Burial was private.

Everett Roosa
Ret. Electrician, 86

Everett H. "Stretch" Roosa of Liberty, a lifelong area resident, a self-employed electrician and the founder and former owner of Electro-Electric Co. in Liberty, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Isaac and Augusta Lehmann Roosa, he was born April 30, 1918, in Willowemoc. He was the widower of Florence McGuire Roosa who died in 1987.
Mr. Roosa was a 50-year member of Liberty Lodge #521, Free and Accepted Masons, and a 50-year member of the IBEW. He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Renee Roosa of Boonsboro, Md, and Michael and Donna Roosa of Jeffersonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Henry DeJesus of Liberty; seven grandchildren, Zachary Mungeer, Abby DeJesus, Dillon Roosa, Nicholas Roosa, Lauren Roosa, Emily Roosa and Alison Roosa; and a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Blount. He was predeceased by a son, Harold Roosa, and a sister, Lyda Charter.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main Street, Liberty, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Masonic services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Steiglich officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

Jazman Boyles
Infant, 6 weeks

Jazman Boyles of Liberty, the 6-week-old infant daughter of Dennis and Heather Lynch Boyles, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
She was born November 19, 2004, at the Westchester Medical Center.
She is survived also by a sister, Shyann Boyles of Liberty; her maternal great-grandparents, Patricia and Ronald Houman of Monticello; her paternal great-grandmother, Barbara Saberg of Highland Falls; her maternal grandmother, Tammy Lynch of Liberty; and her paternal grandparents, Cheryl and Milford Boyles of Swan Lake.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
