MONTICELLO — February 1, 2005 – The Red Raiders of Port Jervis slammed the host matmen of Monticello in Thursday’s Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division II wrestling match.
The Raiders defeated the Panthers by a final score of 70-12.
Port Jervis improved its record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Division II, while Monticello dropped to 1-6, 0-3 Division II.
The Panthers didn’t help their own cause, as they were forced into forfeiting matches in seven weight classes: 96, 112, 119, 130, 152, 215 and 275 pounds.
On the bright side of the mat, the Ng brothers recorded Monticello’s only wins on the night. Anthony Ng pinned Evan Muller in 1:57 and Chris Ng pinned Coner Norrell in 4:54.
“I thought the match pretty much went the way I expected it to be,” Port Jervis Coach Dave Simmons said.
“We were stronger in the upper weights, and we ended up getting a lot of forfeits I didn’t know we were going to get in the lower weights,” he added.
Simmons singled out the wrestling prowess of Dana Presto (145 pounds), Nick Niosi (171 pounds) and Joe Pesce (189 pounds).
Monticello Coach Ed Kaufmann said the season is going “pretty good,” due in large part to the efforts of the Ng brothers – Chris Ng wrestling in the 125-pound class and Anthony Ng competing in the 135- pound class.
“They’re the best wrestlers I’ve got,” Kaufmann said.
The veteran coach said that although the Panthers’ 189-pound grappler, Alexis Bruno, was defeated 5-2, he “wrestled a tough match.”
“The rest are young kids,” Kaufmann added.

• 96 pounds – Rob Rodgers (Port Jervis) won by forfeit.
• 103 pounds – Travis Campbell (PJ) pinned John Bowers (Monticello) in 5:09.
• 112 pounds – Austin Smith (PJ) won by forfeit.
• 119 pounds – Chris Keefer (PJ) won by forfeit.
• 125 pounds – Chris Ng (M) pinned Coner Norrell (PJ) in 4:54.
• 130 pounds – Sean Floor (PJ) won by forfeit.
• 135 pounds – Anthony Ng (M) pinned Evan Muller (PJ) in 1:57.
• 140 pounds – Ruben Rosas (PJ) won a 15-7 major decision over Vinny Brugaletta (M).
• 145 pounds – Dana Presto (PJ) defeated Bob Nittinger (M) by technical fall at 5:31.
• 152 pounds – John Foley (PJ) won by forfeit.
• 160 pounds – Ben Muller (PJ) won a 15-1 major decision over Brendan Ference (M).
• 171 pounds – Nick Niosi (PJ) pinned David Dunlap (M) in 1:44.
• 189 pounds – Joe Pesce (PJ) defeated Alexis Bruno (M) 5-2.
• 215 pounds – Alex Kaufmann (PJ) won by forfeit.
• 275 pounds – Scott Reid (PJ) won by forfeit.
