LIVINGSTON MANOR February 18, 2005 It was a bad night for the Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats as they were stung by the Eldred Lady Yellowjackets, 50-35, in Wednesday evenings Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division VI game.
Eldred (11-8, 5-5 Division VI) outscored the home team hoopsters 13-4 in the first quarter, but Manor (10-9, 5-5 Division VI) rallied a bit in the second period to outgun the opposition by two (13-11).
The third frame was even as each team scored 15 points. But in the fourth quarter, the Lady Yellowjackets went on a roll by buzzing past Manor 11-3 on the way to a win.
Leading Eldred to victory were senior forward Jessica Cherry and senior guard Jen Gutman. Cherry scored a game-high 16 points and Gutman recorded 10 points.
Manor had a trio of players rack up double figures in the scorebook. Carrie Lewis led the way with 14 points, Heather Sherwood registered 11 points and Jackie Trotti added 10.
Stats from the free throw line: ECS 8-of-15 (53 percent); LMCS 3-of-4 (75 percent).
They wanted it more than we did, Manor Coach Kevin Clifford said.
Eldred Coach Frank Kean said his team won by breaking the Manor press, but was concerned that the Lady Yellowjackets were rushing the ball.
It was an excellent game, he said. We took our open shots and we made em, and we played a fantastic defense.
Our defense was all over the place, Kean added.
