CALLICOON March 29, 2005 The Villa Roma in Callicoon recently opened its off track betting facility. It is the only spot in Sullivan County other than Monticello Raceway to offer simulcasting of horse racing at tracks throughout the country. The Sullivan County Legislature approved resolutions allowing its use. In the photo above, Lou Santangelo of Staten Island, foreground, T.J. OToole of Long Island, center, and another race fan who did not wish to be identified watch Saturdays opening race at Gulfstream Park in Florida, which is one of the premier winter thoroughbred tracks in the nation (inset photo). In photo at right, Santangelo places a bet through the Villa Romas OTB automated teller machines. The OTB has three machines to take bets, as well as seven televisions for the viewing of up to seven tracks at the same time. The facility is open to the public. Patrons can also order from a menu which offers a variety of food and drinks.
