They're the Best
By Sue Monteleone
ELDRED May 13, 2005 Eldred Central School District Superintendent Ivan Katz recently announced the schools two recipients of the 2005 Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Scholar Athlete Award.
The award is given annually to a girl and a boy from each OCIAA member school. The guidelines for the award require the chosen students to be ranked in the top 20 percent of the class, participate in at least one varsity sport, be an above average athlete and be an outstanding citizen. This years recipients from Eldred Central School are Tim Hallock, who is the Valedictorian of the ECS Class of 2005, and Jessica Cherry, who is the Salutatorian of the ECS Class of 2005.
I am exceptionally proud of Tim Hallock and Jessica Cherry for all of their accomplishments as students as well as athletes, Katz said. Their time in Eldred has been a proud one.
[The fact that they were] designated as Scholar Athletes may be news to the world outside of Eldred School, but the actions of these two students has spoken in loud volumes to all of their accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field, Katz added. I am very proud of both of them.
