SOUTH FALLSBURG — May 13, 2005 – The Kingston boys’ golf team proved to be slightly better than the Monticello boys’ team on Tuesday afternoon.
Under a bright sunny sky, Kingston defeated Monticello, 217-227 in a non-league match at Tarry Brae Golf Course in South Fallsburg.
Monticello’s Todd Sonnenschein led all players with a 2-over-par 38 but the Tigers had the best team overall score.
Kingston, which has a record of 17 and 1 this spring, is considered to be one of the best teams in the region.
Chris Ferraro led the Tigers with a 4-over-par 40. He made a great chip shot out of the sand on the fifth hole to get himself out of trouble.
Brendan Gaffney finished with a 42, which was the second-best Kingston score. He was followed by Doug Kleeschulte (44), Wyler Gins (45) and Jeff Schaller (46).
Completing the field for Monticello (12-9) were Ryan Sonnenschein (43), Jim Conway (48), Tyler Gilmour (48) and Ryan Kowalyk (50).
Gilmour had several long drives during the match. He also hit a nice shot from a difficult angle on the sixth hole to keep himself in contention.
