LIBERTY May 13, 2005 After six innings in Tuesdays Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV game, things were looking up for the home team.
Going into the top of the seventh, the Liberty Indians held a 4-3 lead over the visiting Bulldogs of Sullivan West. But then the Indians world came crashing down around their ears, as the Bulldogs scored three unanswered runs in the frame and went on to record a 6-4 victory.
The Bulldogs Jim Moloney iced the win in the top of seventh. With two outs, he smashed a two-run double.
With the win, SW (9-7, 5-3 Division IV) clinched a berth in upcoming Section IX Class B Tournament.
Both teams scored solo runs in the first inning.
In the fourth, SW picked up a couple of runs. But the Indians sent three runners across the plate in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 advantage.
The big hit of the afternoon for Liberty (3-13, 2-4 Division IV) came off the bat of Rob Silva, who had an RBI double. Mike Kushetsky recorded two hits for the Indians.
SW pitcher Matt Berger struck out six and picked up the victory. Corey VanKeuren took the loss on the mound for Liberty.
