Golfers Raise
Funds for CRMC
By Rob Potter
MONTICELLO August 5, 2005 The annual Mahogany Ridge Hunting Club golf tournament keeps getting bigger and better.
On Thursday, July 21, a total of 24 foursomes played 18 holes of golf at Kutshers Country Club in the seventh annual Mahogany Ridge Hunting Club tournament.
Those 96 golfers helped the club to raise $3,500, which the club donated to the Oncology Medication Fund at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.
Following the event, golfers, club members and representatives from the CRMC Oncology Unit gathered at the clubs cabin for a chicken barbeque dinner and awards ceremony.
Golf Tournament Chairman Ryan Schock and Mahogany Ridge Club President Jim Steinberg presented the $3,500 check to Heather Noller, Kathy Valenti and Leanne Walsh, all of whom work in the CRMC Oncology/Hematology Department.
This is our major fundraiser each year, Steinberg said.
He noted that the club, which has 22 members, has raised a total of $24,000 from the seven golf tournaments.
Valenti said that the donation from the Mahogany Ridge Hunting Club is one of the biggest ones the fund receives.
Its a big help, believe me, she said.
Following the check presentation, several sporting goods were raffled off. The winners took home prizes such as hats, t-shirts, coolers and golf bags.
One of the raffle winners was Laura Rios of Woodbourne. She won a complete set of Ping golf clubs along with a custom golf bag. The words Mahogany Ridge Hunting Club Golf Tournament 2005 were embroidered on the bag.
Among the guests who attended the awards barbeque were Jack Danchak, who is the President of the Federation of Sportsmens Clubs of Sullivan County, and his son Bill Danchak. In addition, several harness drivers from Monticello Raceway, including Greg Decker, George Gilmour and John Gilmour, played in the golf tournament.
