It's Back to the Field

SULLIVAN COUNTY — September 2, 2005 – The fall 2005 scholastic sports season begins today as two local football teams take to the field against non-league opponents.
At 3 p.m., the Livingston Manor/ Roscoe Devilcats make their season debut against the Deposit Lumberjacks, a Section IV Class D team. The game will be played at the Livingston Manor football field.
Tonight at 7 p.m., the Eldred Yellowjackets kick off their season by hosting the Hancock Wildcats. The two teams opened the 2004 season in Hancock and the Wildcats, a Section IV Class D team, prevailed by a final score of 14-7.
The county’s three other high school football teams begin their 2005 seasons tomorrow afternoon.
Liberty, which has not fielded a varsity football team since 2002 due to injuries and a low number of players, will host Highland at 1:30 p.m. in a Section IX Class B contest.
Sullivan West, which won the Section IX Class B championship last November, begins its season by hosting Delhi, a Section IV Class C team. Last September, the SW Bulldogs defeated the Delhi Bulldogs in the season-opening game for both teams. This year’s battle of the Bulldogs is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at SW’s Jeffersonville-Youngsville campus.
The Tri-Valley Bears, who reached Section IX Class C title game last season, begin their 2005 gridiron season tomorrow by hosting Ellenville in a non-league game. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
T-V is also slated to host a cross country invitational meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
All of the county’s high school soccer teams are slated to start their seasons next week. The T-V Lady Bears, who were the 2004 Section IX Class C runners-up, will host a tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Grahamsville. Eldred, Ellenville and Liberty are the other teams expected to compete in the event.
In other girls’ soccer action next week, the Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats will host The Family School Lady Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Fallsburg will host The Family School at 4 p.m. on Friday.
On next week’s boys’ soccer schedule, the Fallsburg Comets will host the Eldred Yellowjackets at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Liberty will host Goshen at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Monticello will visit SW at 4 p.m. on Thursday and The Family School will host Fallsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Liberty girls’ tennis team will begin its season by hosting Monroe-Woodbury in a non-league match at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. At 4 p.m. on Friday, the Monticello Lady Panthers will host Liberty for their first home match of the season.
