FALLSBURG — October 11, 2005 – Most folks take shelter on a rainy afternoon, but Friday’s ominous weather proved to be a good omen for the Fallsburg girls’ soccer team.
The Lady Comets defeated the Roscoe Lady Blue Devils 3-1 in a non-league game for their inaugural win of the 2005 season.
Roscoe (3-8) took the lead in the the first half on a penalty kick by Stephanie Brock.
But that was all she wrote for Roscoe.
Two Fallsburg players – Jessica Brignol and Kerri Sheridan – scored their first goals ever in the second half to give the Lady Comets a 2-1 lead.
Later in the half, Mia Baires beat Lady Blue Devil goalkeeper Kasse Brock to close out the scoring in the match.
Brock made four saves and Fallsburg goalie Ashley Hong recorded seven saves.
“I couldn’t be happier, they finally meshed and started playing as a team – and they had good communication,” Fallsburg Coach Mandy Biccum said.
Now that the Lady Comets have posted their first win, the first-year coach is optimistic about the rest of the season.
“From now on, I think they’ll start winning more games,” Biccum said.
