LOCH SHELDRAKE — November 18, 2005 – In Tuesday night’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XV women’s basketball game between the host Lady Generals of Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) and Technical Career Institute (TCI) of New York City, SCCC posted a slim 50-46 victory.
At halftime of its first home game of the 2005-2006 season, SCCC held a 26-23 advantage on the scoreboard.
Leading SCCC to the win were Shauna Murry and Hannah Coen. Both freshmen recorded a double-double in the contest. Murry scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Coen netted 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
The top scorer for TCI, which like the SCCC team is known as the Lady Generals, was Sherrell Lawson. She had 14 points on the evening.
Neither team shot particularly well from the foul line. SCCC converted 13-of-35 (37 percent) of its free throws and TCI was 5-of-15 (33 percent) at the line.
SCCC, which is guided by Coach Paul Clune and Assistant Coach Steve Nash, improved its record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Region XV competition. TCI, which is led by Coach Joseph Douglas, fell to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in Region XV.
The SCCC Lady Generals will return to action at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on Monday night. SCCC will host Manhattan Community College at 5:30 p.m. in a Region XV contest.
