Bountiful Thanksgiving

LIBERTY — November 22, 2005 – Several Sullivan County families will have a better Thanksgiving on Thursday thanks to the Sullivan County Long Beards.
On Friday, members of the Long Beards, which is the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), purchased 20 large turkeys from Garry’s Great American in Liberty for the NWTF’s Turkey Hunters Care Program.
The Long Beards then donated the turkeys to people and organizations from around the county who will see that the turkeys are given to needy families to complete their Thanksgiving dinner.
Five of the turkeys were given to the United Way in Monticello, five to St. Peter’s Church in Liberty, five to the Neversink Town Hall, four to Pastor Bridgette LeConey of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and one to Pastor Lamm of the Willowemoc Baptist Church.
The Long Beards raised the money to buy the turkeys from the NWTF Heritage Banquet they held last spring and several other fundraisers throughout the year.
“This was the first year we did this and we were able to purchase 20 turkeys,” Long Beards Treasurer Hank D’Auria said. “Hopefully, we can buy more turkeys next year and help even more people.”
D’Auria noted that the Long Beards have already scheduled their 2006 Heritage Banquet. It will be held on Saturday, April 29 at the Club at the Villa Roma in Callicoon.
For more information about the Sullivan County Long Beards and/or the Turkey Hunters Care Program, please call D’Auria at 439-3738.
