Dolores Arkenbout
Ret’d. Restaurateur, 76

Dolores Mae Arkenbout, a lifelong Liberty resident, died Monday, January 2, 2006 at her home. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Cox Green, she was born October 16, 1929 in Waterbury, Conn. She was the widow of Richard “Arky” Arkenbout, to whom she was married 40 years.
She was the retired owner of Joe’s Restaurant and later Dolores’ Restaurant, and worked for many years at Sullivan’s Charbroil, all in Liberty. She was a 1946 Liberty High School graduate, and an avid bingo player.
In a family statement, it was said, “She was a hardworking, loving, devoted, and caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will always be remembered by many loved ones as the Energizer bunny and the world’s greatest grandma.”
She is survived by a daughter, Richardine Deese of Liberty; two granddaughters, Melissa Pena and her companion, Edward Lopez, of Liberty, and Melanie Powell and her husband, Brandon, of White Sulphur Springs; great-grandchildren, Cassondra Velazquez, Aviell Castro, Brandon Powell Jr., Donovan Powell, Xander Powell, and Melina Powell; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerald and Mary Sue Green, of White Sulphur Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Clementine and Jack Denman of Grahamsville; a close friend, Andre Samuels of Monticello; and many nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Liberty with Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Marvin Siegel, 80
Frmr. Restaurateur

Marvin Siegel, a longtime area resident and a former partner in the Oriental Restaurant in Monticello, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 80 years of age.
The son of Harry and Adele Levine Siegel, he was born December 9, 1925 in Liberty.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Doug Solomon of Monticello; a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Veronica Rossi of Monticello; and seven grandchildren, Tyler Solomon, Talia Pless, Shana, Troy John Jr., Christina and John Rossi; a nephew, Jay Shore and his wife, Christine; a niece, Barbara Papsidero; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc. of Monticello.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Pasquale D’Ambrosio
Ret’d. Shop Owner, 80

Pasquale “Patrick” D’Ambrosio of Narrowsburg, a retired gift shop owner on Long Island and a short-time area resident, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Grover Hermann division of Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon. He was 80 years of age.
The son of Joseph and Angelina Fiore D’Ambrosio, he was born August 29, 1925 in Brooklyn.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Callicoon.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Vincent Gargano of Lake Huntington; cousins, Angela Beatley and her husband, Robert, of Lake Huntington, John Rizzotti and Bill Hudson, both of Cochecton Center; and his lifelong companion, Albert Dube, at home.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at St. James Church in Callicoon.
Cremation was made at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald, Pa.
Burial of the cremains was made at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

Betty D. Willner
Ret’d. RN, 88

Betty D. Willner of Roscoe, a retired registered nurse, died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of Hyman and Rachel Evans Dolgoff, she was born December 31, 1917 in Rhyl, Wales. She was the widow of William R. McMichael and of Charles Willner.
She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary’s College in Newburgh, and had worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City, and later in private practice. She was a former member of the McDoughna, Ga. senior citizens.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Gayle McMichael of Roscoe, and Charles S. and Lucinda McMichael of Falls Church, Va.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth Potts of McDoughna, Ga., Margaret and Tom Selway of Jacobus, Pa., and Barbara and Bob Preto of Lutherville, Md.; an aunt, Barbara Williams of Rhyl, Wales; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and nieces.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe with Rev. Robert Konvalin officiating.

Barbara E. Post
Ret’d. Nurse, 85

Barbara Elizabeth Callaghan Post of Bloomingburg, died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Park Manor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Middletown. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of William Thomas and Jane Elizabeth Wiley Callaghan, she was born April 26, 1920 in Springfield, Mass.
She was a 1946 graduate of the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing, and served the patients of Horton Memorial Hospital in Middletown for 20 years. She retired in 1982.
In a family statement, it was said, “Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. All of her life she gave tremendously and expected nothing in return. She went without life’s little luxuries so that her loved ones would want for nothing. She was dedicated to her chosen profession of nursing, which she poured her heart and soul into. She was a woman of beauty, dignity and grace right up to the very end. The world will not be the same without her.”
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Townsend F. Post, at home; a daughter, Jane Connors, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Mahes Post, of Honolulu, Hawaii and Townsend and Cornelia Post of Houston, Tex.; two grandchildren, Aaron Connors and his wife, Cathy, of Climax, and Heather Connors and her partner, Salvatore LaBruna, of Middletown; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Riley and Caitlin Connors; a sister-in-law, Ruth Waddell of Newton, N.J.; and several nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Callaghan, and a sister, Jane Brown.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro with Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Burial was made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.

Toni Kowski, 61
Owner, Hickory Haven

Toni “Pappas” Kowski of Yulan, the owner of Hickory Haven Lodge in Barryville and a longtime resident of the area, died Monday, January 2, 2006. She was 61 years of age.
The daughter of the late Paul and Jean Jarrel Pappas, she was born December 29, 1944 in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was married to George Kowski for 21 years.
She was a member of the Barryville Chamber of Commerce.
In a family statement, it was said: “She was the love of George’s life. She cared greatly for her two stepsons. She was one of the most caring people; she would always put others first; thinking and doing for them before herself. She will be greatly missed.”
She is survived by her husband, at home; two stepsons, Stephen Kowski and his wife, Mildred, of Marietta, Ga. and Jeffrey Kowski and his wife, Teresa, of Englewood, N.J.; and a brother, Toli Pappas of Yulan.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. on Saturday at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.
Funeral services will follow immediately at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Cremation will be made at HG Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa.

Mildred Lohmann
Homemaker, 89

Mildred Lohmann of Narrowsburg, a homemaker and a longtime area resident, died Monday, January 2, 2006 at her home. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late William Reiker, she was born January 23, 1916 in New York City. She was the widow of Bernard T. Lohmann.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Marie Lohmann of Narrowsburg, and Albert and Peggy Lohmann of Honesdale, Pa.; four grandchildren, Tom Lohmann and his wife, Carol, of Ellenville, Bernard Michael Lohmann and his wife, Melinda, and Amy Lohmann, all of Narrowsburg, and Alex Lohmann of Beach Lake, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.
Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiating.
Burial will be made in the Lava Cemetery.

Luba Schneider
Homemaker, 79

Luba Schneider of Manchester, N.J. and Woodridge, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center after a short illness. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of David and Sally Ebenholtz, she was born July 7, 1926 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Seymour “Bill” Schneider.
She is survived by four daughters, Michele Penchansky and her husband, Richard, of Woodridge, Judith Utter and her husband, Greg, of Canton, Linda Danforth and her husband, Mike, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Lee Ann Schneider of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amy Penchansky, and Jeffrey and Matthew Utter; two brothers, Norman and Sheldon; and one sister, Mona, all of California.
A graveside service was held Sunday at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty with Rabbi Michele Medwin officiating.

Kenneth L. Messina

Kenneth L. Messina of Bloomingburg, a retired electrician for Locals #3 and #363 of New York City, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Horton campus of Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 63 years of age.
The son of the late Emil and Irene Edwards Messina, he was born October 2, 1942 in New York City.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol, at home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolee and Abel Rodriguez of Glenham, Michelle and Daniel MacDonald of Wappingers Falls, Nancie Messina of LaGrange, and Lee Jeanne Messina and her husband, Chad Everett, of Ossining; five grandchildren, Jaynelle, Cynthia, Kenneth, Robert Chris, and Justin Alexander; a sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Martin Skolnick of Yorktown Heights; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Klimowich and her husband, Joseph, of the Bronx, and Diane Vazquez and her husband, Jose, of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Messina; a sister, Joan DiLillo; and a brother-in-law, Edward Vincent Shelinsky.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Middletown.
Burial was made in the family plot in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.

Lisa A. McCagg
Former Caregiver, 43

Lisa A. McCagg of Monticello, a former caregiver at the Center for Discovery in Harris and an area resident for over 30 years, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Seelig campus of Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 43 years of age.
The daughter of Nancy Vandermark McCagg and the late Robert McCagg, she was born September 3, 1962 in Hudson.
She is survived by a daughter, Alicia M. LaMaur of Monticello; a son, Christian McCagg of Monticello; her mother, of Fayetteville, N.C.; a grandmother, Mildred Vandermark of Monticello; two brothers, James Vandermark of Harris, and John Vandermark of Texas; a niece; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty.

Walt J. Tompkins Sr.
Frmr. Paving Contr., 74

Walt James Tompkins, Sr. of Dickinson Center, formerly of the Ellenville area, died December 30, 2005, at his home. He was 74 years of age.
The son of Clem and Addie Gibson Tompkins, he was born June 29, 1931 in Ellenville. He was the widower of Viola May Wonders Tompkins.
He was a member of the Ellenville United Methodist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by three sons, David Tompkins of Dickinson Center, Walter Tompkins, Jr. of Plymouth, and Robert P. Tompkins of Accord; three daughters, Meata Roberti of Bricktown, N.J., Pattie Tompkins of Dallas, Texas and Viola Prottas of Woodridge; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one niece.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville.
Cremation will be made at the convenience of the family.

Edward Mason, 82

Edward Mason of Rock Hill and Delray Beach, Fla., the former owner of Mason Realty and Mason Country Club, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at his home, with his family at his side. He was 82 years of age.
The son of Morris and Rose Mason, he was born October 4, 1923 in Brooklyn.
He attended Cornell University at the age of 15 and was an early investor and pioneer in the manufactured housing industry.
He is survived by a son, Albert Mason of Montague, N.J.; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Mason and Mark Edelman of Vischers Ferry; a companion, Harriet Weisbrod, of Valley Glen, Calif.; and a brother, Rockwell Mason of Monticello.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. in Monticello with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.

Michael H. Langer of Long Beach, Calif., the retired owner/operator of the Swan Lake Fish Company and a former Swan Lake resident, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2005 in Long Beach, Calif. He was 92 years of age.
The son of Max and Ethyl Langer, he was born May 17, 1913 in Brooklyn. He was the widower of Minna Langer.
He is survived by a son, Major A. Langer of Rolling Hills, Calif.; a sister, Eve Metz, and a nephew, Albie Fertels, both of Miami Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan and Alexis. He was predeceased by a son, Robert.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.
Burial will be made in the Swan Lake Cemetery.
