FALLSBURG May 16, 2006 The visiting Chester Lady Hambletonians defeated the Fallsburg Lady Comets, 20-0, on Thursday in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division V game.
The Lady Hambletonians dominated the game in the first two innings, scoring all of their runs in those frames. The game was called after five innings due to the 15-run rule.
Chester pitcher Brittany Clifford recorded the win by hurling a no-hitter.
With the victory, Chester improved its record to 14-4 overall and 7-1 in Division V. Fallsburg fell to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in Division V.
In the top of the first inning, Chester was able to put eight runs on the scoreboard. The team then held the Lady Comets from scoring in the bottom of the first.
Chester batted around and scored 12 runs in the top of the second. Clifford had a double and Kristin Jung added a hit in the beginning of the inning. Then Amanda McCarthy and Caitlyn Rooney bunted to get on base.
After four straight Lady Hambletonians were walked, Kayla Cabacungan and Amanda Benitez each reached base with a bunt single.
The Lady Comets then put a stop to the Chester offense, but it was too late.
Neither team scored during the third, fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth, Clifford struck out the side. She finished the afternoon with 10 strikeouts.
She did not walk anyone and someone reached a base on an error, Chester Coach Jim Lloyd said.
Lloyd also noted that Clifford was a key part of the Lady Hambletonians offense.
She hit very well, earning three RBIs for the game, he said.
Another key Chester batter was Jung, who went 2-for-2 and had two RBIs.
Fallsburg Coach Chris Barnes politely declined to comment after the game.
