ROCK HILL June 20, 2006 Paul Mwangi of Ossining was the first competitor to cross the finish line in Saturdays 14th annual Rock Hill 5K Run & Ramble.
The 5K run and walk is held each June to honor the memory of Walter Rhulen, founder of Frontier Insurance.
The 39-year-old Mwangi captured first place with a time of 15 minutes, 26 seconds. His average time per mile along the 3.1-mile course was 4 minutes, 58 seconds.
In the womens division, 43-year-old Marisa Manza Hanson of Pleasant Valley shattered the existing race record with a time of 17:18. Hanson, who finished fourth overall, had a per mile average time of 5:34.
A total of 257 men and 323 women from the Hudson Valley and beyond signed up for the annual race and walk.
The honors for the youngest females was shared by a couple of 2-year-olds: Samantha Reeder of Westbrookville and Annabelle Rutledge. At 81, Kelly Desmond of Claryville was the oldest woman to compete in the event.
One-and-a-half-year-old Armaan Butler of South Fallsburg was the youngest male competitor, while 80-year-old Bernard Milch of Rock Hill was the oldest man to participate.
