WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS June 27, 2006 When somebody says the name Mr. Willys, there are few people who dont break into uncontrollable giggling or who dont at least crack a smile.
On the field, however, the Mr. Willys womens softball team isnt on the receiving end of anybodys jokes.
The teams Sullivan County Womens Softball League (SCWSL) game on Thursday evening against Behans, held at the White Sulphur Springs Firemens Field, was a prime example.
The top of the first saw Mr. Willys score three runs, which was the beginning of a streak that would slow down towards the middle of the game, but never actually let up.
Besides these runs, the game got off to a sluggish start, with two more runs in the bottom of the second by Behans.
It was an easy-going, badminton paced back-and-forth contest until the top of the sixth inning.
Starting with Tiffany Hauser, who was the sixth batter in the lineup, and ending with Cindy LaRuffa, third in the lineup, Mr. Willys took a commanding lead of the game, with a score of 16 runs against Behans four.
The game ended in the next inning with Mr. Willys scoring another two runs to post an impressive 18-4 victory.
Mr. Willys Coach and team captain Diane Meyer said of the game, Well, we started off slow but then we just started clicking again.
The rhythm of their clicking will be a tune not soon forgotten by Behans.
