AMERICAN ELECTRIC’S MIKE Popolillo swats the ball into the outfield for a base hit in Wednesday night’s game versus the Stone Arch Inn at the Fremont Center softball field. Unfortunately for Popolillo and his teammates, they could not score enough runs to prevent the Stone Arch Inn team from winning the game and preserving its perfect 7-0 record.

FREMONT CENTER — July 7, 2006 – The Stone Arch Inn softball team has been an unstoppable force in its league this year, and Wednesday evening’s game was no exception.
The game, played against American Electric at the Fremont Center softball field, made the Stone Arch’s season record an impressive 7-0.
Glen Hermann started off the Stone Arch Inn in the bottom of the first with a triple, and was promptly brought home by Gary Hubert’s first home run of the evening.
The game was close in the bottom of the third with the Stone Arch Inn leading American Electric 6-4.
That is, of course, until the Stone Arch got up to bat.
Nine runs and one-half inning later, Stone Arch had pretty much sealed the deal.
The rest of the game was a regular slugfest, especially in the bottom of the sixth when the Stone Arch Inn scored another six runs, making the final score 23-8.
After the game, Stone Arch Coach Dennis Brockner announced that a benefit softball tournament will be held for Lenney Merit, a local cancer patient.
The tournament, which will feature about 15 local softball teams, is slated to be held from Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16 at the Fremont Center softball field.
There will also be a pig roast on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Any and all volunteers or donations are welcome for the tournament. For more information or to volunteer, please call Dennis Brockner at 482-5230.
