Women Softball League
Honors Its Champs

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — September 5, 2006 — Several team and individual trophies were presented when the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League (SCWSL) held its annual awards picnic on August 26 at the White Sulphur Springs Firemen’s Park.
The players in attendance also elected their league officers for 2007 at the event. Two of this year’s officers, President Theresa Nietzel and Secretary Darlene Malewit, were reelected for next season. The new officers will be Vice President Robyn Gannon and Treasurer Kathy Jo Hoyt. The outgoing officers are Vice President Erin Brown and Treasurer Shannon Holland.
“I would like to thank everyone for a great season,” said Nietzel before she and the other officers handed out the awards.
Trophies were presented to the teams which finished first, second and third in the “A” and “B” Divisions during the SCWSL regular season.
In the “A” Division, those teams were: first place – Cooper Paint; second place – Charlie’s Angels; third place – Dutch’s Tavern/T&C Tanning.
In the “B” Division, those teams were: first place – New Hope Community; second place – Cobbler’s Restaurant; third place – Center For Discovery Diamonds.
Each member of the Cooper Paint squad received a championship keychain, while each member of the New Hope team received a championship trophy.
Players from the Cooper Paint and New Hope teams also accepted their respective “A” and “B” Division playoff championship trophies. Charlie’s Angels and Cobbler’s were presented with the “A” and “B” Division playoff runner-up trophies, respectively.
Each of the 14 SCWSL teams then honored its own players with special awards, such as Most Improved Player (MIP) and Most Valuable Player (MVP). All of those award winners were selected by their teammates.
Those individual award winners were as follows:

Charlie’s Angels: Comeback Kid Award – Shirley Townsend; Pitcher-in-Training Award – Nicki Krom
Cooper Paint: MIP Defense – Rachelle Irwin and Erin Shuart; MIP Offense – Lori Brown and Ally McCarthy
Dutch’s/T&C: MIP – Shannon Holland; MVP – Lisa Benjamin
Klein & Sons, Logging Inc.: MIP – Amber Miller; MVP – Barbara Ward-Blank
L&B Tack: MIP Defense – Lindsay Loos; MIP Offense – Jamie Potosek
Mr. Willy’s: MIP Defense – Cindy LaRuffa; MIP Offense – Diane Meyer
Nugget Restaurant: MIP – Cheryl Hughes; MVP – Rebecca Sykes
