GRAHAMSVILLE September 29, 2006 Visiting Tuxedo scored once in each half on its way to posting a 2-0 victory over the Tri-Valley Bears Tuesday in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division V soccer game.
Tuxedo (5-2, 1-0 Div. V) grabbed a 1-0 lead at 19:39 of the first half on a goal by Frankie McKay. Ronnie Mello assisted on the tally.
The Tornadoes second goal was scored by Neil Campbell on a penalty kick at 28:12 of the second half.
Bear goalies Fred Moore and Sean Messenger had three saves and two saves, respectively.
Tuxedo goalkeeper P.J. Ostrowski had six saves.
T-V (3-3, 1-1 Div. V) enjoyed a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, while the the Tornadoes had a slight edge in shots on goal (9-8).
Becky Piechuta is the first-year coach of the Bears.
“We played ‘em real well,” she said. “Tuxedo is definitely a tough opponent, they know how to pass well and handle the ball very well.”
“We did everything we could, but didn’t capitalize on any of our opportunities,” she added.
Piechuta noted that a few of her players performed well.
“Kevin Delaney played very well, both as a midfielder and up on wing. Both my goalies did what they needed to do, Alex Calabrese pushed it up field and Zach Cosentino played a real strong middle field.”
