ELDRED — October 3, 2006 — The Yellowjackets of Eldred defeated the visiting Liberty Indians, 47-0, in Saturday’s non-league football game.
Eldred (4-1) scored three times in the opening quarter. Two TDs by Nick McCormick and one by Kevin Prunka allowed the Yellowjackets to take a 19-0 lead.
In the second quarter, McCormick scored three times to make it five TDs overall for the Yellowjackets’ QB
Near the end of the first half, Eldred Coach Frank Kean was going to send in his JV squad and let the clock run out, but the Yellowjackets scored again before he could send those players in.
However, at the start of the second half, and for the remainder of the game, the Yellowjackets’ jayvee squad, under the direction of freshman QB Brian Henry, took to the field in order to get some playing time.
In the third quarter, Sean Donnelly scored on a 7-yard run to give Eldred its final points of the afternoon.
“We didn’t show up today,” said Liberty Coach Jim O’Connor, whose team fell to 0-5 on the season.
“Thirty-nine points was enough for me at the half,” Kean said.
“I was impressed with the way we came out and took it to them, we caused some mistakes and kept riding on them… our offense clicked and we were blocking good, running fast and I was impressed with our first half,” he added.
This Saturday, Eldred will host Tri-Valley in a non-league game at 1:30 p.m.
Also on Saturday, Liberty will try to post its first victory of the year when it hosts Livingston Manor/Roscoe at noon in a non-league contest.
