MONTICELLO — February 26, 2010 — Former Monticello Mayor Gary Sommers is used to dealing with trouble.
But on Monday, trouble of the apolitical kind visited his longtime family business, J.J. Sommers, on Broadway. Fire – possibly started inside a woodstove pipe – began licking at the ceiling.
Thanks to the prompt response of the fire department, the damage was limited to the roof.
Thanks to his neighbors – Windows on Broadway and the Kristt Company – Sommers remains in business, utilizing space inside Windows.
“And all of the customer equipment in the shop is undamaged,” he said with relief – as is his racing gear.
Insurance will cover the rest.
