Calling it a murder in Monticello

MONTICELLO — April 6, 2010 — Monticello Police responded early yesterday morning to what the District Attorney's Office is investigating as a murder.
At 12:17 a.m. yesterday, police responded to a report of a shooting at 39 Landfield Avenue in Monticello. They arrived to find 34-year-old Hercules Jones bleeding from a gunshot wound to his left leg.
Monticello Police were assisted at the scene by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and EMTs with the Monticello Fire Department.
MobileMedic transported the victim to a makeshift landing pad on Jefferson Street, where a helicopter was waiting to take him to Westchester Medical Center.
Before the helicopter could take off, however, Jones went into cardiac arrest, prompting a trip to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was subsequently pronounced dead.
DA Jim Farrell confirmed his office is investigating leads in what is believed to be a homicide.
