Pat Casey resigns

LIVINGSTON MANOR — After just over a year of service, Town of Rockland Supervisor Pat Casey stepped down last week.
Citing personal health reasons, Casey said his resignation was effective immediately.
“These issues have limited my ability to perform the duties for which I was elected by the Town of Rockland taxpayers,” Casey said in his letter to the town board.
Casey had just passed the midway mark of his two-year term, with an expectation that he would run again in November to retain his seat.
Now that decision rests in the hands of Deputy Supervisor Stan Martin. Martin, a councilman who would also have to run again in November to retain his seat on the board, has been named acting supervisor to serve out the next 10 months of Casey’s term.
He said he has yet to decide what he will do come November – whether he’ll run for supervisor or run again for his own council seat. Instead he’s focusing on the transition of power.
Although there won’t be any policy changes, Martin said, there is a town to run. The board will also be looking to fill the now vacant councilman’s seat.
Martin commended Casey on his “candor, amiability and leadership,” over the past 14 months in the supervisor’s office and his service to the town previously as a councilman.
On behalf of the town board, Martin wished Casey, who resides in Livingston Manor with his wife Patty, a speedy recovery and expressed hope that he will one day be back in the public eye, once again serving the Rockland community.
“I have enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to be a part of the governing process for this town that I love so well,” Casey said. Casey, who was elected as a Democrat, said “A heartfelt thank you to the Town of Rockland taxpayers, all board members and employees for your dedication, support and concern.”
