Operators from Sullivan Paving grade the creek bank after installing sheet pilings along 250 feet of the East Branch of the Callicoon Creek in Youngsville.

Flood remediation work done, Callicoon awaits payment

By Jeanne Sager
JEFFERSONVILLE — Work has been completed on a major flood remediation project in Youngsville, but the Town of Callicoon is still waiting on state funding to pay its bills.
Town Clerk Janet Brahm said she has received a bill from Sullivan Paving for $100,000 for a project behind the Mowers and More shop on Route 52. Work was completed with the proviso that monies would not be forthcoming until the town receives a contract from the New York State Dormitory Authority securing the funds.
Acting only as lead agency, the town is not responsible for funding the project – a flood remediation program put together after the devastating flooding over the summer, with the help of Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Supervisor Linda Babicz said she and Councilman Tom Bose met on site recently with Brian Brustman of Soil and Water, and the project has been graded to the steel pilings, seeded and mulched.
The town board tabled payment of the bill on Monday evening, pending the Dormitory Authority contract.
