Committee formed to advice board on closed campus

By Dan Hust
LAKE HUNTINGTON — The Narrowsburg School Building Advisory Committee (NSBAC) has gotten under way.
At the Sullivan West school board meeting Wednesday, Narrowsburg resident Jane Luchsinger told the board that the committee has been formed and given a purpose.
“The purpose of the NSBAC is to explore options for the future use of the Narrowsburg School which are compatible with the character of Narrowsburg,” Luchsinger read from a prepared “progress report.” “These suggestions will be proposed to the Sullivan West school board for review and consideration.”
Though about half a dozen Narrowsburg residents are already involved, Luchsinger said a list is being created to invite members from the larger SW community beyond Narrowsburg.
“We don’t feel that just we should be making decisions for the entire district,” she explained.
But ideas are already emerging, including one to sell the 71-year-old Narrowsburg School to Crystal Run Healthcare to replace a physicians’ firm that recently left the hamlet.
The group next meets on Tuesday, December 8, at 6 p.m. at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance on Main Street in Narrowsburg and will meet every two weeks thereafter. SW’s board has set a deadline of six months to determine what to do with the currently-vacant campus.
“We’re trying very hard to make the right fit into our community,” Luchsinger promised.
She welcomes calls at 252-3864 or e-mails at janeluchsinger@frontiernet.net.
