Deli Worker Reported Missing
By Dan Hust
CALLICOON April 3, 2007 Equinunk, Pa. resident Isabel Catherine Bortree, a well-known face behind Peck’s Markets’ deli counter in Callicoon, has gone missing.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Bortree’s husband reported her missing after she didn’t show up for work on Saturday morning.
Bortree, 47, was last seen leaving her home in Equinunk (actually located in the tiny hamlet of Lookout) between 8 and 10 a.m. Saturday on foot, presumably for her job at Peck’s.
She was wearing jeans, a dark top and a lavender-colored parka, said police.
Bortree was known to regularly hitchhike to and from work along State Route 1016, also called the Callicoon Road. The 8-mile trek is extremely rural and connects Callicoon and Lookout, passing through the sparsely settled hamlet of Abrahamsville, Pa.
Police said they are treating this as a missing-persons case, as they do not currently suspect foul play.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Pa. State Police at 570-253-7126.April 3, 2007
