Heeding the call of a fellow veteran

By John Mahoney, Rolling Thunder Chapter 4
LOCH SHELDRAKE — Late in the fall, members of the Youngsville-based Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 contributed time, expertise, and materials in the construction of a handicapped ramp at the Loch Sheldrake home of Air Force veteran Harry Barkley.
Under the direction of master carpenter Frank Behr, the ramp was constructed in two working days by the members of the Chapter.
All the materials used in the construction of the ramp were donated by the Chapter. Chapter President James Sennett of Briscoe stated, “It was the least we could do to assist a veteran like Harry, who has fallen ill.”
Sennett went on to say, “ We encourage all businesses and individuals in the area to donate funds or materials to the Chapter so that we can continue to work to service our vets in need.”
Most of the funds used in this project were donated by the members of Ironworkers Local 580 out of NYC.
The other members of the Chapter participating in the construction were Wes Bowers, John Crotty, and John Mahoney.
