Hearts flow out
to those in need

By Dan Hust
HARRIS — February 26, 2013 – Saturday’s Heart-a-Thon showed there are many warmly-beating hearts in Sullivan County.
Exactly $65,782.85 was raised by volunteers from across the county in WSUL/WVOS’ annual fundraiser.
“It’s really critical to see that we’re all stakeholders in this,” said co-chair Roberta Byron-Lockwood, who noted the broad range of participants, from young people to senior citizens. “The amount of money coming in is mind-boggling.”
Especially in a mercilessly harsh local economy. Yet hundreds upon hundreds of donations will ensure that Catskill Regional Medical Center once again can buy the life-saving cardiopulmonary equipment it uses every day.
Byron-Lockwood and fellow co-chairs Paul Carlucci and Alan Kesten said 100 percent of the raised funds will go toward telemetry machinery and a cardio treadmill.
The latter, in fact, is already on its way.
“The treadmill has been ordered,” confirmed the radio stations’ general manager, Helena Manzione.
“It’s a matter of doing the best we can to raise as much money as we can for a good cause,” Kesten explained.
