MONTICELLO — January 8 —An elderly woman escaped from a fire which extensively damaged a one-family residence at 15 Ann Street in the Village of Monticello on Friday afternoon.
Both Ann Street and Roosevelt Place (which the house faces) were closed off to traffic from about 3 p.m. until the blaze was controlled at about 4:15 p.m. Twenty Monticello firefighters, along with the Rock Hill Fire Department as well as the Liberty FAST Team responded.
Monticello Fire Chief Marc Friedland said that the first call came in at 2:57 p.m. Friedland also said that the elderly woman was able to get out unharmed under her own power. The Red Cross assisted her with finding shelter.
MobileMedic was also on the scene and the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department was kept on “standby,” according to Friedland.
