Alvin Sherb
Retired Comptroller, 75

Alvin Sherb of Boynton Beach, Fla. and formerly of Monticello, NY, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home in Boynton Beach. He was 75.
Alvin was predeceased by his wife of forty years, Geraldine Carnesi Sherb.
He is survived by his wife, Constance Greenberg Sherb, of Florida; his five loving children, Guy Morris, Joy Sherb Tunno and husband Douglas, Jay Sherb, all of Monticello, Gayle Sherb of Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Dee Sherb of Syracuse, NY; and three grandchildren.
Alvin was the longtime comptroller of Kutsher’s Country Club and the Raleigh and Homowack hotels.
A family statement reads “Our Dad was a wonderful, kind and generous man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
Funeral services were held Monday, February 22 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello. Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiated. Interment was made in Rock Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

George L. Bernhardt
Retired from Bethel DPW, 93

George Lester Bernhardt of Cochecton, a retired employee of the Town of Bethel DPW, a dairy farmer, and a lifetime resident of the area, died February 20, 2010 at his home. He was 93.
The son of George and Lilly Bultz Bower Bernhardt, he was born June 1, 1916 in Cochecton. He was the widower of Hazel Hubbert Bernhardt who died October 13, 2009.
He was a member of the New York State Trappers Association.
He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Huebsch and her husband Harry of Liberty, Martha Huebsch and her husband Clay of Cochecton, and Judy Zurawski of Liberty; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Vern VanOrden; and a sister, Lillian Bernhardt Nober.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 23 from 7-9 p.m. at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, at Kenoza Lake Cemetery.

Helen A. Bedrick
Retired from Court System, 91

Helen Ada Simpson Viele Bedrick of Livingston Manor passed away on February 18, 2010. She was 91.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ada J. Thompson Simpson, born on November 19, 1918 in Livingston Manor. Helen was the widow of Ottis Viele.
Before his passing they owned and operated a gas station in Turnwood, NY. She then retired from the Sullivan County Court system. Helen was very active in her community, just to name a few of her affiliations, she was a member of the Lew Beach Ladies Auxiliary, Lew Beach Cemetery Board and the Liberty Methodist Church.
She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by her loving son, Arthur O. Viele and his wife Barbara of Liberty; one grandson, Donald O. Viele and his wife Theresa of Liberty; a granddaughter, Helen L. Williams and her husband Everett of Livingston Manor; seven great grandchildren, Kody Viele, Brandon, Douglas, Jeremy, and Curtis Williams, and Christopher and Dominique Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ottis Viele.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12788.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 25 at the funeral home. The Rev. Bridget LeConey will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Lew Beach Cemetery, Lew Beach, NY.
Donations in Helen’s name may be made to the Beaverkill Valley Fire Department, 1854 Beaverkill Road, Lew Beach NY 12753.
