Gustav W. Dahlman
Owner, My Favorite Place, 79

U.S. Veteran Gustav W. Dahlman of Roscoe and Melville, NY, owner of My Favorite Place in Roscoe, NY, and a long time area resident died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Huntington Hospital, Huntington, NY. He was 79.
The son of the late Otto and Elvina Johansen Dahlman, he was born June 6, 1930 in Queens, NY.
Gustav proudly served our country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and he was a police officer for the Nassau County Police Department for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Venosa Dahlman, at home; two sons, Gary Dahlman and his wife Bonnie of Roscoe, NY, and Jeff Dahlman and his wife Heidi of Greenlawn, NY; two daughters, Maryann De Simone and her husband Robert of Huntington, NY, and Michele Bocchichio and her husband Ron of Huntington, NY; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and neighbors Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

Bernard J. Mandell
Retired cab driver, 84

Bernard Jay Mandell of Liberty, a retired cab driver from New York City, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 84.
The son of the late Ben Mandell and Anna Mirrel Mandell, he was born June 23, 1925 in Brooklyn.
A WWII veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Mandell was also a member of the Hurleyville Synagogue.
He is survived by two daughters: Paula Mandell Weinstein & her husband Arnold of East Setauket and Gene Mandell Ross & her husband Joel of Liverpool; a brother: Sol Sapadin of Plainview; four grandchildren: Eric Weinstein, Seth Ross, Alan Ross and Michael Ross; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery, located off Mongaup Road in Hurleyville. The Weinstein and Ross families will sit Shiva at their respective homes.
