Harold C. Maas, 83
July 1, 1926-May 6, 2010

Harold Corwin “Johnny” Maas, a lifelong resident of Lake Huntington, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 83.
The son of the late Henry and Jessie Nearing Maas, he was born July 1, 1926 in Lake Huntington.
He had various careers, mostly involved with trucking, before taking over the Lake Huntington Garage from Ralph Calkins and building a new garage on Nearing Road in 1972. He worked there along with his son Gary and grandson Michael and never offically retired.
With his wife Gladys, he traveled across the United States and the world, traveling from Antarctica to Norway, from China to Africa. In recent years he liked camping in local campgrounds with his motor home. In addition, he loved going to car shows with his ’66 Impala SS. In his younger days, he enjoyed boating and taking his family water skiing on Lake Huntington, even though he never learned how to swim.
He is survived by his two sons, Gary Maas of Lake Huntington and Thomas Maas and his wife, Carol, of Manchester, Conn.; grandchildren Michael Maas and his wife Mirelle of Narrowsburg, Heidi Maas of Worchester, Mass., Jessica Maas of Hartford, Laura Maas of Boston, and Julie and Erica Maas of Manchester, Conn. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Maas, this past February, and his daughter-in-law Judy Maas.
A funeral service was held May 10 at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg. Cremation followed at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, Pa.
