Robert M. Smith, 77

Robert M. Smith of Hankins died Friday, January 16, 2009, at his home. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Robert T. Smith and Ida Munro Smith, he was born December 31, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA.
During his business career he worked with Gencorp (General Tire and Rubber Company) for 32 years, serving as the Fund Manager, Investment Board Member, Executive Vice-President, and Vice Chairman for General Investment Funds, managing pension funds for Gencorp and its subsidiaries.
He was a resident of Hankins, teacher at the East Ridge School, and a member and trustee of the East Ridge Community since 1970.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ruth Rickloff Smith, at home; two sons, Gordon M. Smith and Andrew R. Smith; two daughters, Jonelle S. Rizzi and Carolyn S. Anderson; 18 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were held Monday, January 19th at the East Ridge Chapel.
Graveside services were held and burial was made in the Callicoon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Ridge School at P.O. Box 260, Hankins, NY 12741.

Gail A. Bose, 69

Gail A. Bose of Westerlo, NY, (formerly of Jeffersonville), died suddenly on January 15, 2009 while camping in Florida.
She was born on February 7, 1940 in White Sulphur Springs to Richard and Hilda Husch Poley.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Steven Bose. She was the loving and proud mother of Gaye (Willie) McCafferty of Westerlo, NY.
Gail worked as a cashier at the A&P and Eddie’s Market. She also worked at the Villa Roma for several years.
In addition, she was a great support to Steven with Stewart Funeral Service. Gail was an active volunteer with the Jeffersonville First Aid Squad for 20 years. She was a communicant of St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Jeffersonville.
She is also survived by four siblings: Helen Schwartz of New Market, Virginia; Richard (Connie) Poley of Cody, Wyoming; Nancy Borden of Liberty, NY; and Mark (Patti) Poley of Sevierville, Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews.
Her kind and generous spirit will be remembered by all those with whom she interacted.
A celebration of her life will be held at the South Westerlo Congregational Christian Church on Sunday, January 25 at 2 p.m.
A memorial service will occur in the spring in Jeffersonville, and details will be announced in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gail’s name to the town of Westerlo Volunteer Fire Police, Westerlo, NY 12193; Westerlo Rescue Squad, 571 State Route 401, Westerlo, NY 12193; or to the charity of one’s choice.

Leona B. Stackhouse, 84

Leona B. Stackhouse, our wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed peacefully into Heaven at the age of 84 on January 17, 2009, to join her husband John.
They are now together roller skating once again.
Born December 19, 1924 in Denton, NY, to the late Milford and Nettie Watters, she spent most of her life in Thompsonville, NY.
It was at a roller skating rink in Bloomingburg where she met the love of her life, John Stackhouse. They married in 1947 in Middletown, NY, settling in a home John built in Thompsonville, NY.
Leona worked at Gibber’s Egg Farm, walking across the street every day, to make money to help support her family. Leona enjoyed shopping, eating out, putting puzzles together, reading, word books, collecting magnets, walking, hiking trails, traveling and exploring new places. She was also a former member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in Heaven by her brothers, Russell, Carl, Royal and Melvin and by sisters, Loretta and Norma.
She is survived by her five children: John, Thelma and her husband, Fred Loscig, Roger and his wife, Bonnie, Charlie, and Patricia and her husband, Mark Poley; her four grandchildren: Alex and his wife, Shannon, Jimmy, Kevin and Todd; her brother, Don and his wife, Margaret; her two sisters, Doris and her husband, Frank, and Shirley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, January 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, NY, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., at the funeral home. The Rev. Roy Shaffer will officiate.
She will be loved, remembered and missed by her family for the rest of our lives.

Shirley Feldberg, 85

Shirley Feldberg of Monticello, a loyal and devoted wife and mother, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty. She was 85.
The daughter of the late David Karp and Edith Rosenthal Karp, she was born May 15, 1923 in Newark, NJ. She was the widow of Theodore Feldberg who predeceased her on July 15, 2000.
Besides helping in the family business as a bookkeeper for Monticello Cabinets, Shirley was a strong supporter and advocate of good education and served on the Monticello School Board. Active in local politics, she at one point ran for the office of Mayor. A member of Temple Sholom, Shirley also devoted decades to the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
She is survived by a son: Dr. Philip C. Feldberg & his wife Penny of Windsor, CT; a daughter: Ellen Beth Rundle & her husband Michael of Boiling Spring, PA; four grandchildren: Cindie, Samara, Ariana & Heather; seven great grandchildren; a sister: Frances Rosenberg of Monticello; and several nieces & nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 3:00pm at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway in Monticello with Rabbi Michele Brand Medwin officiating. Interment will follow at the Temple Sholom Cemetery, Southwoods Drive in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts of America.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello.

Thera H. Klingman

Thera Helene Klingman of Nanuet passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 67.
Thera (Teri) was born on April 6, 1941 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Jesse Wolfson and Ruth Holuboff Wolfson.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Wayne, at home; her sister, Ellen Nesin and her husband Eugene of Monticello; two sons, David and his wife Kelly of Okinawa, Japan, and Wayne and his wife Flo of Hempstead; three grandchildren, Collin, Philip and Elliot; and many nieces & nephews.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 20 at noon at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello. Rabbi Michele Brand Medwin will officiate. Interment will follow at the Temple Sholom Cemetery, Southwoods Drive, Monticello.
The family will sit Shiva at the Nesin home from Tuesday thru Thursday evening and then on Thursday evening at the family home in Nanuet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. Mid-Hudson Chapter, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-4060.
