Eva Helen Boyle
Retired Postmaster

Eva Helen Boyle of Hortonville, NY, a retired postmaster for the Hortonville Post Office, died on Monday, April 6, 2009.
The daughter of the late Hugo and Helen Raeder Mantwill, she was born October 7, 1924 in East Prussia, Germany.
On March 25, 1952, she was married to Peter E. Boyle, Mr. Boyle died in 1990.
Eva was a former member of the Town of Delaware Town Board; the treasurer for the I.O.U. Thrift Store; and trustee for the Delaware Free Library. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, where she served on the Cemetery Committee, Parish Council, and the church Social Committee; she volunteered at WJFF Radio and The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance; and was a member of the Delaware Democratic Executive Committee.
A family statement reads: “Eva lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.”
Eva is survived by her son, Peter Boyle and his wife, Amy Archangel of Forest Hills, NY; daughter, Patricia Scott and her husband, Joel Scott, of Hillcrest, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, April 9 at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating. Burial was made in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Callicoon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Free Library or the Upper Delaware Ambulance Corps.

Muriel H. Barbuti, 88

Muriel Hansen Barbuti, longtime Liberty resident died Monday, April 6, 2009. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of the late John C. Hansen and Margaretta Crady Hansen, she was born March 19, 1921 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
In a family statement, it was said, “Few people have had true unconditional love, and all of us, the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly blessed to have had that kind of love from our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma. Mom was not the public person that her husband Charlie Senior, co-founder of Charlie Barbuti Furniture Mall was, but those closest to her knew that her sharp intelligence and ability to make things happen was behind much of the success our family enjoyed. She was a trailblazer for women of the 21st century, spending her life balancing a full-time job outside the home with her full-time job inside the home.”
At the age of 18, she was the secretary to School Principal David E. Panebaker in the Liberty School District. She followed that with employment as a telephone operator. She returned to education as guidance secretary in Liberty and later became secretary to the Superintendent of Sullivan County BOCES. Her working career culminated with 30 years in the family furniture business.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, James Barbuti of Astor, Florida; Thomas Barbuti of Baltimore, Maryland; and Charles Jr. and Terri Barbuti of Liberty; nine grandchildren, James Barbuti Jr., Frank Barbuti, Emeley Nicholson, Yvonne Decker, Patricia Kidd, Arianne Hudgins, Heather Barbuti Peterson, Allison Barbuti, and Jill van Leuken; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Charles Barbuti; her brother, Donald Hansen; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Barbuti.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gerda Wolfe and all the people at Wolfe’s Family Home for Adults in Narrowsburg, NY, for the wonderful care Mom received there.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY, on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Sullivan County, Monticello Unit, 22 St. John’s Street, Monticello, NY 12701.

Former Head Nurse FDR VA Hospital, Montrose, NY; former Clinical Specialist NY State Office of Mental Hygiene; former Assistant Nursing Professor, Sullivan County Community College, Community Mental Health Nurse, Letchworth Village Development Center, S. Fallsburg.
