Tasha Williams

On Saturday, May 9th at 2 p.m. a memorial service will be held for Tasha Williams at the Callicoon Creek Park. A reception will follow the ceremony at The Delaware Youth Center. For more information: (570)- 224-8457. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Delaware Youth Center.

Edith Shulman, 96

Edith Shulman, a longtime resident of Monticello, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 96.
The daughter of the late Harry Schindelheim and Fannie Schlanger Schindelheim, she was born August 10, 1912 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Leo Shulman who predeceased her on April 20, 1983.
Edith attended New York University and then entered the business world working at Macy’s Department Store in Manhattan. After she and her husband moved from Brooklyn to Liberty, she helped establish, and became the buyer for the women’s wear department of Sullivan’s Department Store in Liberty. She was a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello. An avid computer buff, throughout her life she spent countless hours in the loving care and maintenance of the grounds of her homes.
She is survived by a daughter: Stephanie Heigh and her husband Robert of Monticello; a son: Marc Shulman of Monticello; her grandchildren: Cheryl Faith Taylor, Randi Ackerman, Rabbi Moshe Heigh, Alyssa Shulman and Neil Shulman; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held privately on Monday, May 4 at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Landfield Avenue Synagogue, the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties, or the Hebrew Day School of Cincinnati.

Erika Euker, 87

Erika Euker of Callicoon, NY, a homemaker, died April 30, 2009 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty, NY. She was 87.
The daughter of Emil Otto Zetzmann and Frieda Martha Tischendorf Zetzmann, she was born March 12, 1922 in Koppelsdorf, Germany. She was the widow of Arnold Euker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Callicoon and the United Methodist Women of the church. For many years, Erika served as the Callicoon correspondent for the Sullivan County Democrat.
She is survived by her children, Arnold John Euker and his wife Deanna of Columbia, Ill., Gerald Euker and his wife Emily of Callicoon, and Eileen Martel of Kinderhook, NY; five grandchildren, Tracy Norton, Brad Euker, Jeff Euker, Greg Euker, and Keith Martel; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Trinity, Trevor, Madden, Cameron, Autumn, and Keagan Euker and Aiden Martel.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced.

Anne Haddock, 88

Anne Haddock of Jeffersonville, NY, a homemaker and lifetime area resident, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Frank and Mary Judge Haddock, she was born February 4, 1921, in New Windsor, NY.
She was a member of St. George’s R.C. Church in Jeffersonville.
She is survived by two nieces, Cynthia Belle and her husband Richard of Swan Lake, NY, and Sherry Haddock of New York City; three nephews, Gary Haddock and his wife Robin of Oneonta, NY, Kevin Haddock of Swan Lake, and Wayne Haddock and his wife Nadine of Groton, NY; several grandnieces and nephews; and her best friend, Eugene Doetsch of Jeffersonville. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Charles Haddock.
A Funeral Mass was held Monday, May 9, 2009 at St. George’s Church, Jeffersonville with Fr. Ignatius Vu officiating.
Burial was made in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Liberty, NY.

Joseph E. Morton
Ret. Postal Clerk, 63

Joseph Edward Morton of White Sulphur Springs, a lifetime Sullivan County resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was 63 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph H. and Caroline Walker Morton, he was born April 30, 1945 in Monticello, NY.
He was a retired Postal Clerk for the Liberty Post Office, working there for 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and the Clarence Hoyt Post #9217 VFW of Liberty. A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1966-1969, spending the entire year of 1967 in Vietnam, where he was with the 25th Infantry Wolfhounds Division. He was married to Margaret Fulton in Liberty on May 7, 1966. They were married for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, at home; two sons, Joseph E. Morton, Jr. and his wife Melanie of Groton, NY, and Christopher Morton of Albany, NY; two sisters, Mae Neiss of Evans, Colo., and Helen Gadziala of Binghamton, NY; three grandchildren, Joseph E. Morton III, Xavier, and Quenton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Raymond.
A military service was held Friday, May 1 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.

Gloria Lanese
Retired Bookkeeper, 84

Gloria Lanese, a longtime resident of the area, entered into rest on May 3, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Liberty, NY. She was 84.
Daughter of the late Harold and Ernestine Podesta Timoney, she was born April 18, 1925 in Oakland, MD.
Gloria was a retired bookkeeper for Jamesway in Liberty, NY. She was a member of St. Francis Church in Youngsville, a volunteer in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and was a grandparent volunteer at Liberty School.
She was the widow of Anthony Lanese and Claus Schons. Survivors include her children: Craig Lanese of Jeffersonville, Dean Lanese of Derry, NH, Michele Morgenthaler of Mastic, NY, Wayne Lanese of E. Stroudsburg, PA, Renee Prairie of Liberty, and Tim Lanese of Youngsville; two sisters, Dorothea O'Niel of West Islip, NY and Elaine DiGiacomo of Albertson, NY; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, May 8, at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY; 845-482-4280.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 9, in St. Francis Church, Youngsville, NY, with Fr. Ignatius Vu, celebrant.
