Norma J. Yonchik
Homemaker, 86

Norma J. Wright Yonchik of Hortonville entered into eternal life on July 16, 2009 after a short illness at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 86.
Born July 19, 1923 in Santa Ana, Calif., she grew up and lived most of her life in California. She moved to Sullivan County, New York in 1955 with her husband and three of her children. As a homemaker for her husband and children, they lived in Cochecton, Callicoon, and finally Hortonville. Norma was a member of the Holy Cross Church Rosary Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Long Eddy and U.S. Marine Corps Auxiliary League.
Surviving are her husband Paul Yonchik of Hortonville; daughter Donna Harlson and husband Gerry of Yucca Valley, Calif.; daughter Zoanne Deckelman and husband Charles of Fremont Center, NY; son James Yonchik and partner Art Arbizu of Downey, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, Larry (and two children) and James (and four children) Watte of Yucca Valley, Calif.; Donald Gordan (and children Justin, Zachery and Kaylee) of Mission Viejo, Calif.; Julie Gray (and children Janell, Jesica and Lance) of St. Paul, Minn.; Sandra Deckelman-Davis (and children Michael and Jacob Feigenbutz of Fremont Center and Ryan Davis of Swan Lake) of Swan Lake, NY; and Bill Deckelman (and daughter Monika) of Obernburg, NY. Norma was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Matie Wright; brothers Clifford and Alfred Wright; sister Pauline Patton; grandson Jerry Watte; daughter Virginia Gray; and son Paul Yonchik Jr.
At the request of the family, there will be no viewing. A rosary vigil service was held Sunday, July 19 followed by a Memorial Mass celebration at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, NY with the Rev. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating. Inurnment was made at Holy Cross Cemetery, Callicoon. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Holy Cross Church, PO Box 246, Callicoon, NY or to the VFW Auxiliary Post 7276, Long Eddy, NY.
Arrangements are by Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon, NY - Cremation Provider. 845-887-4900.

Helen Jean Kerrigan
Community Volunteer, 82

Helen Jean Kerrigan, a longtime resident of the area, passed away at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Pa. on Sunday, July 19, 2009. She was 82.
She was born in Port Jervis, NY on September 29, 1926 to the late John F. and Helen Dexter Kerrigan.
Jean was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY. She was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Tusten Ambulance Service, Western Sullivan Public Library Tusten-Cochecton Branch, Grover Hermann Hospital Auxiliary, Tusten Lions Club, Tusten Historical Society, Lake Huntington Red Hatters, Women’s Community Club of Cochecton, Cochecton Democrats and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Jean is survived by her sister Marie Kerrigan Smith, five nieces and nephews: Mark E. Smith, Karen Smith Braglia, Gail Smith Fink, Jeff J. Smith and Anita Smith Prutling.
Also, she is survived by nine grandnieces and grandnephews, five great grandnieces and great grandnephews, and a very dear friend, Eileen.
She was loved dearly by her family and all her many friends. She will truly be missed by all.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 23, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, July 24, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg with The Rev. William Scully officiating.
Christian burial will be in St. Lucy’s Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 34, Narrowsburg, NY 12764 or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.
