Lewis V. Houston Jr., 78
Lewis Vanderwheel Houston Jr., a lifetime area resident passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the Putnam Hospital in Putnam, NY. He was 78.
The son of the late Lewis and Eleanor Menshen Houston, he was born on January 1, 1931 in Warwick, NY.
Lewis was a hard-working family man who loved hunting, gardening, especially cat fishing. “Catfish” was his CB handle. He was a Teamster for the Local 445. Having retired of thirty-eight years with honors, he never missed a day of work or took a sick day, nor was he ever late.
Survivors include his two daughters, Jane Rundle and her husband Clarence of Monticello, NY, and Belina Bee Houston Vangordon and her companion Phane Dulsenbery of Monticello; his three step-daughters, Laura Stewart and her husband Leroy of Grahamsville, NY, Valerie Manthorne of Liberty, NY, and Elaine Seinz and her husband Jorge of Harris, NY; his four sons, John Houston of Arizona, Vincent Stanton of Liberty, Chuck Stanton of Harris, and Preston Stanton and his wife Joan of Monticello; his one sister, Pearl Mott of Harris; and several nieces and nephews as well as grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie Matilda Whipple Houston; his son, Leo Stanton; his two step-daughters, Eva Eguquiza and Evelyn Forshay; his two sisters, Mary Ellen Lesando and Laura Holecek; and his brother, Leo Houston.
Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. As per the family’s request, all contributions may be sent to the St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Certified Nursing Asst., 71
Elaine Brandt, a 48-year resident of Callicoon Center, NY, died August 3, 2009. Born June 23, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, she was 71.
Loving mother and sister, loyal friend and co-worker, Elaine lived life with energy and happiness. The daughter of Louis and Elvira Brandt of Callicoon Center, she was an avid attendee of community theatre who devoted her life to family and serving our community as a 20-year Certified Nursing Assistant at the Catskill Regional Medical Center.
Elaine is survived by immediate family, sister, Lois Brandt of Staten Island; sons, Edward and wife, Alicia Skelly, of Poulsbo, WA and Michael and wife, Karen Skelly, of North Branch; daughters, Wanda and husband, Robert Zazzara, of Centreville, VA and Elaine and Doug Peters of North Branch; and grandchildren: Kimberly and Stephanie Skelly, Michael and Kevin Skelly, Breanna Zazzara and Tylor and Trevor Peters.
Elaine will be dearly missed.
