Cyril ‘Cy’ Plotkin
Feb. 25, 1911-Oct. 18, 2009

Cyril “Cy” Plotkin, a longtime resident of Sullivan County, passed peacefully at his home on October 18, 2009. He was 98 years old.
Born in Brooklyn in 1911, Cy and his family moved to Kauneonga Lake where his parents opened the Woodlawn Hotel when he was 10. At the time there was no running water or electricity. After graduating from Monticello High School, Cy attended Northeastern University and majored in engineering. He was always very proud of the fact that, while a student, he wrote the score for a play, “Banned in Boston” and that it was performed by 60 musicians as part of the Northeastern Theatre Department. Upon returning to Sullivan County, Cy worked at the family hotel. He was a music lover and played piano professionally in hotels around the county. On one such occasion, he met the love of his life, Annie Siegel. They eloped in 1932 and remained married for 72 years. During those years, Cy ran the Landfield Avenue Garage, was an avid photographer, traveled extensively throughout the world, helped charter the Sullivan County Photography Club, and played and listened to music and enjoyed his family. At the age of 95, he learned to use a computer and he enjoyed googling his favorite composers and e-mailing his friends and family.
Cy was predeceased by his wife, Anne Siegel Plotkin; his brothers, Norman, Jack and Allen; and his nephew, Mark.
He will be missed by his surviving relatives, brother-in-law Leon Siegel of Livingston Manor; his sister-in-law, Cecille Plotkin of Monticello; his nephews, Gary Siegel of Liberty, Jerry Plotkin of New York City, Steve Plotkin of Monticello, Joe Watson of North Carolina, Raymond Patruski of Queens; his nieces, Teri Banerjee of Massachusetts, Shelley Watson of North Carolina, Judy Siegel of Liberty, Joann Plotkin of New York City, Barbara Plotkin of Monticello, and Carol Petruski of Queens; many great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and his devoted caregiver, Nicole Kuval.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to The American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County.
