Roy Elis Ohman
Ret. NYTEL Switchman, 77

Roy Elis Ohman of Equinunk, Pa., a lifetime resident of the area, died peacefully on November 20, 2009 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY, surrounded by his loving family at his side. He was 77.
The son of the late Elis S. and Lillian Backlund Ohman, he was born August 20, 1932 in Stalker, Pa. He was married to Rita Eileen Hoffman Ohman.
Roy was a retired Central Office Switchman for the New York Telephone Company and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of the Oak Stump Hunting Club, and Holy Cross Church in Callicoon, NY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Roy was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He loved to share his love, knowledge and experience of the great outdoors with everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, at home; his children, Lisa E. Clark and her companion, Michael Richardson, of Kauneonga Lake, NY; Cathy E. Gottesman and her husband George of Perkasie, Pa.: Mary L. Winski and her husband Joseph of Youngsville, NY; David R. Ohman and his wife Anne of Franklin, NY; and Amy T. Angelella and her husband John of Allentown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Jason Gottesman, Andrew Gottesman, Christina Haff and her husband Michael, Joseph Winski, Jacob Ohman and Sam Ohman, and Charles Angelella and Natalie Angelella; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was held Monday, November 23, at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating.
Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church, P.O. Box 246, Callicoon, NY 12723.
Arrangements are by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon.

Johann Schoonmaker
Former Teacher, 85

Johann Schoonmaker of Buck Brook and Roscoe, NY, a former teacher and purchasing agent at the Delaware Valley Job Corps in Callicoon, NY, died November 22, 2009 at her home. She was 85.
The daughter of Neil and Ester Balsamo, she was born October 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of George P. Schoonmaker.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Obernburg, NY.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Allison of Ithaca, NY, and Laura Schoonmaker of Buck Brook; two sisters, Angela Robinson and Ann Balsamo of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Bart Balsino of Arizona; three grandchildren, Robert Allison, Jessica Allison, and Sarah Allison; three great-grandchildren, Sequoia, Nyah, and Lakota; and a foster son, James Mullenix.
She was predeceased by her husband, and by a son, Dale Schoonmaker.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 27 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 28 at St. Mary’s Church in Obernburg with Father Joseph Jeracek officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Obernburg, NY 12767.
Arrangements are by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon.

Anna B. Sauer
Retired Bookkeeper, 78

Anna B. Sauer, beloved mother, grandmother and bookkeeper extraordinaire, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of the late John and Gyda Skorpen, Anna was born on March 18, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years. Karl L. Sauer and two brothers, Erling Skorpen and Harold Skorpen.
Anna was an active member of The Cochecton Women’s Club, The Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, The Cochecton Democratic Club and Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church. She was co-owner of Office Machines and Equipment with her late husband, Karl, worked as a bookkeeper for Livingston Manor Lumber Company and in her retirement was Tax Collector for the Town of Cochecton for six years and owned Anna B’s B&B to accommodate Outback Outfitters’ clients for five years.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandi and Richard Jay of Cochecton Center, Carla Casterline of Nashville, TN, and Donna and Robert Sauer-Jones of North River, NY; one son, Steven and Lisa Sauer of Cochecton; grandchildren, Tammy and Karl Haass, Melanie Jay, Sarah Hazard, Jonathan Casterline, Jacob and Kate Sauer-Jones, Lucas Sauer-Jones, and Maegan, Austin and Cassidy Sauer; great-grandchildren, Karl, Katelyn, Briana and Brandon Haass, Cameron, Logan, and Keara Hazard, and Nicholas Sauer-Jones; a brother, John and Lucy Skorpen of Ridgefield, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 28 at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church.
There will be no viewing and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

John Louis Krantz
June 4, 1944 - Nov. 18, 2009

John Louis Krantz of the Beechwoods, died November 18, 2009 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. He was 65.
Johnny was born in the Beechwoods on June 4, 1944, at home. The son of Muriel Layton Krantz and the late Everett Krantz, he lived at his home for 60 years. He spent the last five years as the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. Johnny loved to walk and had many friends along the road. Everyone loved Johnny.
Johnny is survived by his mother, Muriel Layton Krantz; his brother, Gary Krantz of the Beechwoods; his aunt, Kathryn Hasenpflue of Jeffersonville; his niece, Kristi Burkey and her husband David and their two children, Kaitlyn and Justin; and three nephews, Steven, Daniel and Andrew Krantz.
He was predeceased by his father, Everett Krantz; his nephew, Scott Krantz; and his very best friend, Ethel Diehl.
Services were held Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Pastor Kit Robison officiating.
