Arnold Bleach
September 20, 1923 - January 3, 2014

Mr. Arnold Bleach of Lords Valley, PA, formerly of Scarsdale and Monticello, NY, died Friday, January 3, 2014 at Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, with his wife Marjorie by his side. He was 90.
He was born September 20, 1923 in Middle Village, NY, the son of the late Max Bleach and the late Yetta (Yvette) Kamiel Bleach. He was married for 36 years to Marjorie A. Spaeth Bleach.
Arnold proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater and was a member of the Jewish War Veterans in Monticello.
Arnold was the owner and operator of Bleach’s Diner in Monticello. He worked as the Director of Buildings and Grounds at Sullivan County Community College where he also was a Drama Coach and set designer. He owned and operated a wholesale lumber business in Montgomery, NY. He also served as the building inspector of Monticello, NY. As an architectural designer and builder, he designed and built many homes and was the project manager for historic renovations in Westchester and Sullivan counties. He was a member of the Northeast Lumberman’s Association.
As a long time member of the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, he acted, designed and built sets. He continued this passion in Westchester at the Mid-Westchester YMHA, where he received a commendation for his contributions.
He was a member of the Jewish Fellowship of Hemlock Farms and was an avid Bridge Player.
At the personal request of Mayor La Guardia, Arnold and his gymnastics troupe were invited to perform at the 1939 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, NY. He received a medal from the NY Parks Dept.
A family statement read: "Arnold Bleach was a devoted and beloved husband to his wife Majorie for 36 years. He was the proud father and grandfather of his clan, supporting his Hebrew name Avram.
Arnold was always proud of his reputation in business as a man of loyalty and great integrity. He was a caring and helpful neighbor and friend.
This life long Yankee fan was a consummate woodworker. He not only repaired his household but his relatives, neighbors and friends as well.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bleach, at home; son, Bruce Bleach and his wife, Joanne of Goshen, NY; son, Barry Bleach and his wife, Lynne of Sherman Oaks, CA; five grandchildren: Jordan, Daryn, Camryn, Mack and Ethan Bleach; also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two sisters: Ruth Bennett and Barbara Newberg and one brother, Norman Bleach.
Funeral Services were held Monday, January 6 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Port Jervis, NY.
Burial with Military Honors was made in Delaware Cemetery in Dingman’s Ferry, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Smile Train, Humane Society and Disabled Veterans of America, in lieu of flowers.

Gary F. Slater
October 28, 1935 - January 5, 2014

Gary F. Slater of Woodridge passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving brothers. He was 78.
He was the son of the late Stephen and Frances Stratton Slater. Gary was born on October 28, 1935 in Monticello, NY.
Gary was one of the owners of Slater’s Garage in Woodridge, NY. He was a true outdoorsman; in his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Woods Pond Rod and Gun Club as well as a 50 year member of the Woodridge Fire Department. He was a loving son, brother and friend that will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brothers Robert “Bob” Slater, Jim Slater, both of Woodridge, NY, Glen Slater and his wife Yolan of Stony Point, NY; two nephews Brett Slater and his wife Kelly of Tucson, AZ, Tyler Slater of Danbury, CT; his Aunt Ethel Stratton of Appalachia, NY; close cousin, Howard Craft and many other cousins and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by one brother, John Slater.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. There will be a firematic service at the funeral home on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:45 a.m.
A funeral service will follow.
Interment will be held at Glen Wild Cemetery, Glen Wild, NY.
