James T. McDowall
Ret. Cook, 76
James T. McDowall of Harris, passed away on September 27, 2007 in Warrenton, Va. He was 76.
He was born in Trumbull, CT on Mar. 24, 1931 to the late John and Caroline Hauslaib Mc- Dowall. His wife, Adele M. Ober predeceased him on June 22, 2003.
“Jim” was a well known short order cook at Gager’s Diner in Monticello before his retirement.
He served in the 7th Infantry of the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Monticello Lodge#532 F. & AM, an honorary member of the Liberty Lodge F. & AM, and a Veteran of the Chosin Reservoir.
He is survived by sons, James “Willy” McDowall of Cantonment, Fla., Frank Perry (Beth) of Naugatuck, Conn., John Mc Dowall (Michele) of Warrenton, Va., Robert McDowall (Laurie Daus) of Harris, and David Mc- Dowall of Andes; daughters, Tracy Murdock of Fountain Inn, S.C. and Valerie Zeppelin of Liberty; and his brother, John Mc- Dowall of Clifton, N.J.; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Private cremation was in September.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday Feb. 9 at 1:15 p.m. in Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., 55 St. John Street Monticello with Rev. John Thomason officiating. Masonic Services will precede the funeral service at 1 p.m.
Private services for interment of ashes will be at a later date in Connecticut with Military Honors.

Cathy Ann Davis
Homemaker, 63
Cathy Ann Davis of Monticello, died at her home on Sunday February 3, 2008. She was 63.
Cathy was born in Honesdale, Pa. on July 1, 1944 to the late Earl and Zelda Martin Sporer.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years Walter Davis, at home; three sons, Dale Sheeley Jr. (Carrie Sue) of Atlanta, Ga., Arnold Sheeley (fiancee Dayna Kearns) of Kiamesha Lake and Daniel Sheeley of Rock Hill; one daughter, Dawn Marie North of Rock Hill; one brother, Edward Sporer; and five grandchildren.
There will be no services. Cremation was held at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.

George Rudy, 84

Gerald L. Briggs
Community Booster, 80
Gerald L. “Jerry” Briggs passed away Tuesday February 5th after a long illness at the Sullivan County Adult Care Facility in Liberty. He was 80.
The son of the late John and Dorothy Briggs, he was born on July 15, 1927 in Niagara Falls, Canada always commenting he could never be President since he was born in Canada.
Jerry was a graduate of Colgate University and worked for many years as Head of Security & Director of Personnel at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard and was particularly proud of his service as an F.B.I. agent.
He was a Mason, a charter member of the Monticello Elks Lodge # 1544 and a 50 year member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club, having served as President in 1962. Moreover, he was a member of the Monticello Board of Education for 16 years serving as President from 1980 1988. He was also a member and Past Chairman of the Town of Thompson Republican Committee.
Jerry was a die-hard Yankees fan and an avid golfer with a great sense of humor. He will long be remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Corinne at home; three sons, Dan Briggs and his fiancée, Anna Milucky of Monticello, Dr. Jeff Briggs of Smithsburg, Md., Peter Briggs and his wife, Debbie of Rock Hill; one daughter, Nancy Fogg and her husband, Craig of Cumming, Ga.; eleven grandchildren, Ryan, Chris, and Katie Briggs, Ashley, Nicholas, and James Briggs, Brendan and Connor Briggs, and Taylor, Sarah, and Brian Fogg; and dog Molly.
Friends were able call on Thursday February 7, 2008 from at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes,Inc. 55 St. John Street Monticello. The Monticello Elks Lodge conducted services at 7 p.m.
Private Burial will take place with Military Honors at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery Sunset Lake Road in Liberty.
