Irene A. Welch
Retired U.S. Postmaster, 87
Irene A. Welch, a 56-year resident of Neversink, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011. She was 87.
Irene served as Postmaster of the Neversink Post Office from 1965 until 1985. She served in many community organizations including the Neversink Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Ambulance Auxiliary, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the National League of Postmasters, and she was a charter member of the Tri-Valley Lioness Club. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Irene loved to cook, tend her garden, square dance and travel the world.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Harris; two sons, Gilbert Welch and his wife Susan and Al Welch and his wife Lorraine; five grandchildren, Beth Welch, Lynn Goldstein, Eric Welch, Tina Tynecki and Thomas Welch; and four great-grand children, Samuel and Jason Goldstein, and Kayla and Parker Welch. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Welch, and a daughter, Sarah Kay.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. The memorial service to celebrate Irene and Gilbert’s life will begin right after visitation, and their interment will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, with Father Jeff Golliher officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neversink First Aid Squad or The American Heart Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home. Frederick P. Schindler
Retired from Grumman Aerospace, 61
Frederick Paul Schindler, a 15-year resident of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at his home. He was 61.
He was married to Linda Zellers Schindler for 39 years.
Born in the Bronx, he started his 42-year career with Grumman Aerospace, now Northrup-Grumman, in St. Augustine. He was in his third year of retirement.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He will be laid to rest Saturday, May 7, in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. He was the son of the late Patricia and Fred Schindler, who are also interred in Liberty.
He is survived by two sisters, Susan, the wife of Henry McGrath of Lake Huntington, and Patricia, the wife of Richard Lawrence of Lowndesville, South Carolina; and one brother, Robert, the husband of Gina Schindler of Griffin, Georgia.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
