Michael S. Miller, 59

Michael S. Miller, age 59, of Pompano Beach, Florida and formerly of Liberty, NY, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
Michael was born in Bronx, New York, and moved to Liberty with his mom, Claire, when he was a young man. He was a graduate of Liberty Central High School and attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He moved his permanent residence to Pompano Beach, FL, where he spent the last 20 years.
Michael created and operated his own industrial food business, MK International, Inc., in which he had just recently partnered with his son, Kristofer. His gregarious personality, kindness, generosity and sense of humor will all be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Claire Eisner.
He is survived by his son, Kristofer Miller and his wife Mia of Danbury, CT; sister, Joy Taylor of Ellenville, NY; and nephew, Mac Psachie and his wife Gloria and their newborn daughter, Eliana of Bronx, NY. As family was a priority to Michael, he will be missed dearly by his extended family, including the Woods and Cronk families, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregation Ahavath Israel, 39 Chestnut Street, Liberty, NY at noon on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests “Memorial Gift”donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Michael’s name.

Retired Supervisor of Nassau Cty. DPW, 78
Edward R. Helfers of Hankins, a longtime area resident, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, Pa. He was 78.
The son of the late Edward Henry and Dorothy Charlotte Wilson Helfers, he was born November 17, 1932 in Queens. He was the widower of Winifred Crowley Helfers.
He was a retired supervisor for the Nassau County Department of Public Works, and a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a former member of the Westbury Fire Department, Catskill Detachment of the Marine Corps League, and a member of the Allan Milk Post Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by a son, Edward Helfers and his wife Anne Marie; a daughter, Patricia Hirsch and her husband Robert; one sister, Kathlyn Kieser and her husband Robert; his grandchildren, David Hirsch, Maureen and Thomas Helfers; a great-grandchild, Collen Hirsch; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 11 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon. Funeral services will be held Friday evening at the funeral home.
Visitation will also be held on Sunday, November 13 at Donohue-Cecere Funeral Home, 290 Post Avenue, Westbury, NY from 2-5 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 14 at 10 a.m. in the Church of The Advent, 555 Advent Street, Westbury, NY. Inurnment will follow at the Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.

Edith V. Humphries, 100

Edith V. Humphries, age 100, of Yulan, New York, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at The Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
She was born on October 4, 1911 in Barryville, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph A. Guenther and Frieda Meyer Guenther. Edith married Harold Humphries, Sr. on November 11, 1938 and he has pre-deceased her.
She is survived by her sister, Viola Clancy of Verona, New Jersey; her sister-in-law, Marion Guenther of Barryville; her nieces, Linda Anderson and her husband Ken, Helen Quick, Barbara Murphy and her husband Peter, Pam Clancy Thoennessin and her husband Rick; her nephews, Clinton Guenther, Jr. and his wife Maureen, and Ted Clancy; and many great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her son, Harold Humphries, Jr., and her sisters, Frieda Fleiger and Helen Liefert, and her brother, Clinton J. Guenther.
Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
